Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits. As the summer break draws to a close, it is my pleasure to extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome back to Hodgson Vo-Tech for the upcoming academic year!
The start of a new school year is a time of renewed energy, fresh opportunities, and limitless potential. Our dedicated faculty and staff have been working to prepare an enriching and safe environment that fosters academic excellence, career and technical expertise, personal growth, and a strong sense of community. To do this, we will focus on three areas: Empowering Future Innovators, Building Pathways for Success and Cultivating Lifelong Learners.
We want to remind you about an important change that happened last school year at our school: we transitioned to a new learning management system, Infinite Campus. We believe this new system has significantly enhanced our ability to support your child's education. Should you have any questions about Infinite Campus or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out.
We are thrilled to continue the momentum on the construction of the new Hodgson building—an exciting and transformative chapter for our school. This project represents a major investment in the future of our students, with modern, state-of-the-art facilities designed to elevate learning and support our career and technical education programs.
In this edition, Assistant Principal Mr. Michael Paoli shares the latest updates and key information about the construction progress.
To our parents and guardians, thank you for your continued partnership and trust. As we begin this new school year, we do so with optimism, purpose, and appreciation for the opportunities ahead. Together, we’ll navigate the challenges, celebrate the successes, and create meaningful experiences for every student at Hodgson Vo-Tech.
Welcome back, Silver Eagles! Let's make this year one filled with growth, inspiration, and memorable experiences. We're here to cheer you on every step of the way.

All students in grades 9-12 use a school-issued Chromebook. Prior to the start of the school year, all forms and payments must be completed by students and parents. This is a yearly process for all families. Forms are electronic and can be found on the website as well as linked here. There is one student Acceptable Use Agreement form and one parent Acceptable Use Agreement form.
There is also a yearly $25.00 insurance payment that is made electronically.
Students in grades 10-12 already have their devices and should ensure their devices are charged and ready for use.
Students in grade 9 will receive their Chromebook the first day of school.
We’re excited to share that we’re adding a monthly activity period to our school schedule! While we’re still finalizing the details, our goal is to give students more time to participate in organizations and clubs, enriching their experience here at Hodgson.

Hodgson seeks to provide every 12th grade Career and Technical Education (CTE) student with a paid cooperative training job opportunity, which is a culminating experience in their senior year. This program enables seniors to work in paid entry-level positions in a business or related industry while completing their high school graduation requirements.
Last year, our class of 2025 was able to land cooperative work with more than 160 different employers and earned more than $ 2.75 million in wages during the school year. More than 110 students were offered full-time employment after graduation, and a large number accepted and began their careers.
This summer has been no different. Employers continue to call in daily for qualified students to fill their workforce! We need seniors who want to work and start their cooperative experience right away. You can contact Mr. Chris Moxley, Co-Op Coordinator, with any questions at 302-834-7740 or christopher.moxley@nccvt.k12.de.us.
Dear Parent/Guardian,
We are looking forward to serving your student breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria! It is not mandatory to complete a meal benefit form, but students who have not completed a meal benefit form and received notification from New Castle County Vo Tech School District that they were approved for school meal benefits for the 2024-2025 school year will need to pay for lunch on the first day of school. The price of school lunch is $1.75. Students who are approved for free or reduced-price meals will be eligible to receive school lunch at no charge. All students, regardless of meal benefit status, will receive free breakfast in the New Castle County Vo Tech School District.
Nutrition Services is now accepting meal benefit forms and we encourage you to send your student's form in now to be processed prior to the start of the school year. If you would like to apply for meal benefits for your student, please complete the form online by visiting www.nccvtns.com.
If you have students in another school district, please remember that you need to complete a meal benefit form for each school district separately and that meal benefits that you receive for students in another school district will not automatically transfer to your student in the New Castle County Vo Tech School District. If you need help with applying for free or reduced meals or need a paper form, please contact the Nutrition Services Office at 302-995-8066.
You may also add money to your student's school meal account using PayPams. You can create an account, add funds with a credit card, and monitor student cafeteria transactions by visiting www.paypams.com. We also accept cash and check deposits at the register in the school cafeteria to add money to your student’s meal account.
You may reapply for benefits at any time during the school year. If you are not eligible now but have a decrease in household income, become unemployed, have an increase in household size, or qualify for SNAP or TANF benefits, you may fill out another application at that time.

The New Hodgson Vo Tech
We are excited to share information about the construction plans for our new Hodgson Vo Tech school. This project represents a significant investment in the future of our community, providing a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the educational experiences of our students. The new school will feature modern classrooms, advanced technology, world-class CTE programs, an auditorium, a gymnasium, and new athletic fields.
The new school has risen quickly on our campus, in the space where the football stadium once stood. Construction began in September 2023 with the demolition of the athletic fields, followed by site clearing and grading, installation of underground utilities, paving of the parking lot, and laying of the foundation. Since then, the steel framework has been erected, masonry exterior walls are nearing completion, and significant progress has been made inside. The interior walls have been fully constructed, with painting finalized and doors installed—marking a major milestone that positions the project firmly on track toward completion.
The construction has be carried out in several phases to ensure timely completion and minimize disruption to the students and our surrounding community. The entire construction process is expected to be completed by summer 2026, with the school opening for the 2026-2027 school year.
The construction of the new Hodgson Vo Tech is more than just a building project; it is a milestone that symbolizes our commitment to providing a top-tier education and a nurturing environment for our students. The excitement surrounding this development is palpable, as it represents a shared investment in the future of our community. We are excited about the positive impact this school will have on both our students and the community.

Message from Athletic Director - Mr. Dave Collins
Hodgson has a very proud tradition of athletics, winning 23 State Championships and 95 Conference Championships! We look forward to you joining this tradition as one of our student athletes. At Hodgson, we offer 18 different sports to choose from throughout the fall, winter, and spring seasons. Within this newsletter, you will find information on physicals, listings of all our offered sports, and most specifically, information on our fall sports programs that begin in August.
To participate in athletics, you MUST have an up-to-date DIAA physical on file! If you do not have physical, you cannot participate, there are NO exceptions to this.
If you do not have a DIAA physical, you have several options:
1. Contact our Wellness Center at 832-5400 to schedule an appointment. Their summer appointments may be limited.
2. Contact your primary care doctor, make sure you tell them this is a sport physical that needs to be completed on a DIAA form. We cannot accept physicals not on the DIAA form.
3. Get your physical completed at an urgent care/walk in clinic. We recommend using the Go Care at Abby Medical Center. 1 Centurian Drive, Newark 19713. Please indicate you are there for a DIAA sports physical.
Prior to turning in your physical, please make sure you and your parent has signed in all the correct places. A missing signature can prevent you from participating.

Delaware Department of Education regulations do not permit students to be assigned to more than one bus. The Transportation Office can only route a bus to one address per student. This address is the address that was on the initial application and is listed as the physical address on file in the school data system. Bus passes will only be issued for Court Ordered Split Custody situations, in which the second guardian's address must be verified by the school and listed in Infinite Campus. Passes will NOT be issued for the following reasons:
Employment (i.e. to get dropped off closer to the student's job, including their coop job)
Staying with a relative or friend overnight or for the weekend
Aftercare
Getting off at a different stop on the same bus
Once bus passes are issued there are conditions that apply:
Passes are issued to the closest stop on an existing route to the second address. We will not re-route a bus or create a stop. Therefore, we cannot guarantee a safe walking path, and it is expected that the student will be picked up and dropped off from the stop that is listed on the bus pass.
The Transportation Office will not communicate your student's schedule to the bus driver. The expectation is that your student will communicate their schedule to the driver.
You will not receive the “all calls” with updates or changes to that bus route. You only receive calls for the bus your student is assigned to.
The student must always carry the pass in case there is a substitute driver on the bus.
The pass is only valid if there are seats available on the bus.
Passes can be revoked for behavioral issues or if a bus reaches maximum capacity (48) of students who are regularly assigned.
Prior to the start of the school year, all bus pass requests should be directed to the transportation office. 302-994-8544

We are pleased to announce that our school has enrolled with SAFEDE, by STOP it Solutions. SAFEDE is a technology platform to assist students, parents, and staff in asking for and privately accessing a wide variety of help and resources.
Our aim with SAFEDE is to provide:
1. Private access to basic needs resources.
2. Convenient linkage to school, community, local, state, and federal resources and helplines.
3. A culture that recognizes that all of us need help at different points in our life and asking for help is an important life skill.
SAFEDE is a tool that works by empowering students, parents, and staff to access help they need with dignity and privacy. All parties will have access to the SAFEDE mobile app, which has three main features:
1. ASK FOR HELP can be used to anonymously request help from local school contacts, including Messenger which allows anonymous two-way communication with school contacts and help requesters.
2. CRISISTEXTLINE can be access directly from the app to text with non-local trained crisis counselors
3. GET RESOURCES can be used to search community, local, state, and federal resources and helplines
Our designated administrators will have access to SAFEDE’s backend incident management system to manage and track requests. That system may also be used to assign requests to other individuals.
Senate Bill 290 - Erin's Law Programming
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We want to take this time to inform you of the training your child will be receiving during the fall semester. The Delaware General Assembly passed Senate Bill 290, which expanded the educational programming on personal body safety, sexual abuse and other forms of child abuse to students in grades 7th through 12th.
For this reason, your child will be participating in educational programming that will discuss sexual abuse and other forms of child abuse and ways for your child to get help and support. Teachers will be conducting a 45 minute session and showing the ‘It’s Not Okay’ video to students. Leading up to the training, students and families will be notified with more details about the training.
We know that parents, caregivers, and families are the most important guides for their child. We encourage you to have conversations about these topics with your student. Resources and helplines are included in the infographic above. If your student discloses that they have experienced sexual abuse or another form of child abuse, we encourage you to make an immediate report to the Division of Family Services Report Line at 800-292- 9582. In addition to making a report, you may also contact your student’s school administrator or school counselor.
Mental Health Programming - Erika's Lighthouse
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We want to take this time to inform you of the training your child will be receiving during the fall semester. In accordance with House Bill 301, which requires Delaware public schools to adopt and implement mental health programming, NCCVT has chosen to implement a mental health and depression awareness program called Level III: Depression Education & Suicide Awareness. This program was developed by a highly respected mental health education and advocacy organization, Erika’s Lighthouse: A Beacon of Hope for Adolescent Depression. Leading up to the training, students and families will be notified with more details about the in-school training.
The program goals include:
Raising awareness of good mental health.
Raising awareness of the signs of depression and risk and warning signs of suicide.
Reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Encouraging help-seeking skills and, if necessary, additional support services.
A key component of the Erika’s Lighthouse program is Family Engagement through education and awareness. They have developed two ways that may help promote conversations with your children about mental health and depression:
“We All Have Mental Health” was written by parents, for parents. It is designed to help you understand and promote good mental health at home. It is part of the Family Workbook Series on Mental Health & Depression. Access it here.
A short On-Demand Virtual Family Workshop is available for you to watch. This workshop will give you an opportunity to learn more about mental health and depression in adolescents, and prepare you for any discussion at home. We will also review the materials that your child will be learning about in the classroom. You can view the workshop here.
These fact-based, student-friendly and hopeful programs promote the messages we need our students to hear - Everyone deserves to have good mental health, depression is common and can be serious, but there is hope and help. You are not alone.
Our school wants all of our students to be healthy, both physically and mentally. We encourage students to take control of their mental health and learn how to seek help for themselves or a friend if needed. One of the biggest challenges to mental health is teen depression, a very common, yet widely overlooked mood disorder that will impact 15–20% of young people before they reach adulthood. It is also a risk factor to suicide.
We look forward to working together to better inform students of important issues, like depression, and provide the tools students need to navigate challenging times.
All these programs are donor-funded and no-cost to schools like ours. For more information on this program, please visit erikaslighthouse.org.
Please review the following documents and complete the necessary forms. Only do so if the forms apply to you.
