Shaker Middle School

Health Education

All students study one semester of health education on an every other day basis opposite physical education. The course is based on NYS and national standards with an emphasis on social-emotional learning. Shaker Middle School Health Education includes the age-appropriate study of personal values, communication, decision-making, drug use/abuse, mental wellness and stress management, HIV/AIDS, relationship management, and adolescent changes. The goal of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to live a healthy life.

All three grades begin with a personal self-assessment and reflection of students' dimensions of health/wellness.  Use this site to explore more topics and key terms specific to each class. Please reach out to your child's teacher for a schedule related to each topic. For other questions, including information on HIV/AIDS prevention opt-outs, please contact Dave Stadtlander, Supervisor of Secondary Physical Education and Health at dstadtlander@ncolonie.org  or Sean Colfer, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics at sean.colfer@nccsk12.org
