Writing consultants are Shaker High School students who have completed at least one semester of the Writing Center internship, where they have been trained in Writing Center theory and practice. These students volunteer their time during the day and after school because they are excited to share resources they have helped to create, listen to the ideas of fellow students, and ask the kinds of questions that help make writers make more purposeful, impactful choices about their own work.

The Writing Center seems like a very relaxed yet inspiring environment, as the consultants are students, just like the writers who come in to see them, and the consultants' advice inspires confidence and reflection within the writers.

The Writing Center is a very inclusive place. I heard some of the consultants talking about Black History Month and Asian American and Pacific Islander Month, and how to display diversity and acceptance during those months. This showed me that the Writing Center thinks about everyone without discrimination.
