Data Questionnaire: Please find here the link to the form about UAS data. The questionnaire is divided in two parts and aims at better understanding the needs and requirements to make the data derived from these platforms FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable).
Use Case Study Questionnaire: Please find here the link to the form about Use Case Studies. The form is to indicate interest in providing a current use case study based on UAS research which you have carried out, or highlighting a desired use case (where you would like to, or have been unable to use UAS for your research, and to highlight the barrier). A template will be provided in due course to collect these Use Case Studies, with the form used to indicate interest in contributing such a case study.
This form also gives the opportunity to upload resources that should be referenced in the NZArC Report to NERC, to highlight any gaps from the in-person workshop on 5 June that should be covered in the online follow-up workshop on 20 June, and to leave general feedback on NZArC.
Technology ranking questionnaire - Responses from NZArC workshop 1: This form invites you to rank responses given to the questions “In what areas is technology innovation needed for platforms and sensors? What are the scientific areas, new and upcoming, that could benefit from drone activity and what's needed to make this happen?” in terms of perceived importance for progressing Net Zero Aerial Capability.
The responses are grouped into ‘Platforms & Training’, ‘Sensors’, ‘Integration’, 'Data' and ’Other’. We would be grateful if you could do your ranking by 9am on Tue 20 June; collated rankings will be discussed at the online workshop starting 2pm on 20 June. Thank you for your participation, apologies for the tight timescales.

CAA Innovation Test Sites - survey
The CAA is looking to facilitate the safe development of new RPAS and AAM concepts in the United Kingdom, as part of the Government’s ambition to make Britain a world leader for new forms of aviation. A key enabler of this ambition is the establishment of safe and useful test sites, where market entrants can test and evaluate their products.
To achieve this we need the views of the aviation community, to ensure that sites have the characteristics that enable research aims to be achieved, and for us to learn about the technologies we will need to certify. Link to overview and CAA survey.
Here you can view an example of an existing use case study, and templates for existing and desired use case studies. Please submit your completed use case study via this form by 5pm on 31 July.
The use case studies will feed into the appendix of the NZArC Scoping Report.
In June 2023 individuals were invited to participate in one in-person and one online workshop to explore the development of ‘Net Zero Aerial Capability’ (NZArC) for NERC-funded Centres. These workshops took place on 5 June in Leeds and on 20 June online, and the presentations and outputs were made available via the NZArC Microsite.
The Workshops provided an opportunity for community engagement that has subsequently been used to inform the drafting of the NZArC Scoping Report. This report aims to lay out the current state-of-affairs relating to Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS), where we want to be as the NERC-Centre community, what the barriers/challenges and solutions/opportunities are, and to provide recommendations for advancement.
The Context-chapter describes the vision for airborne autonomy of each of the participating NERC-funded centres, while the Findings-chapter expands on the topics covered in the workshops, ie the challenges and opportunities in the areas of regulation, technologies, and data. Technologies include platforms, integration, and sensors, the latter broken down into the disciplines of atmospheric, ecological, geoscience, glaciological, hydrological, oceanographic science, and Earth observation.
The NZArC Steering Group invites you to review the drafts of the Context-, Methodology-, Findings- and now also Conclusions-chapters of the nascent Scoping Report (the Executive Summary is currently being drafted). Please note our focus at this stage is on content rather than polished presentation.
The drafts are available on the NZArC Microsite all under one folder. We invite you to provide feedback by 11am on 7 March 2024 via the following Community Feedback Form, detailing
Did you find the information useful? - if yes - what specifically?
What did you find out that you did not know before?
What have we not considered?
How could the content be improved?

Other comments
To give feedback on the newly added Conclusions-chapter, please use the section entitled ‘Anything else’ in the Community Feedback Form, since the form was set up when this chapter was not yet available.
Your input will help us to finalise these chapters, and will feed into the overall conclusions and recommendations.
Thank you in advance for your feedback - it is very much appreciated,
