Have you ever considered using a flying laboratory? Do you already use the facility and want to see us do something differently? Are you completely new to the idea of airborne atmospheric science and aren't sure where to start?
This workshop will allow the science community to develop ideas and help direct the future science of the FAAM Airborne Laboratory. Representatives from funding bodies will be on hand to discuss how your ideas can be funded.
Based on the ideas put forward, we will produce a white paper providing key recommendations to UKRI on community science priorities, funding approaches, and how to optimise use of the aircraft during non-UK deployments and shared flights.
What we need to consider during the workshop and in the subsequent white paper:
• Strategic research priorities (on a scale of research programme) which are driven by a strategic need (not necessarily just the use of FAAM), especially in alignment with NERC Forward Look and/or government missions. This can be NERC remit research but also any opportunities where NERC should be leading with other parts of UKRI (or outside), and any opportunities to link with international programmes.
• Longer-term pipeline of research needs, less formal than the above, but bigger than individual projects which gives some sort of view to the research ideas people have (especially from new users of the aircraft). This should include projects that can piggyback onto funded detachments.
• How the above two points link to FAAM capability - what instrumentation is required, is there expectation for new capabilities.
