2nd Grade
Class updates
2nd Graders- please practice reciting Twas the Night Before Christmas and singing all of your songs. Lyrics below (scroll down):
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
(arm wave like first part of hello song)
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
(finger wave like saying no)
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
(hang stocking)
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;
(tap wrist like pointing to watch)
The children were nestled all snug in their beds,
(snuggle)
While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads;
(hands up like the I’m excited hand sign)
And mamma in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
(put on cap)
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap,
(sleeping gesture)
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
(clap on “clatter”)
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
(jump)
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
(arms forward like superman)
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
(open window)
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
(fingers snow falling gesture)
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
(point down)
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
(hands above eyes, looking in distance gesture)
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer,
(hold up 8 fingers - 4 and 4)
With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
(like throwing a baseball)
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
(one moment gesture)
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
(flying gesture)
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
(Shouting gesture hands around mouth)
"Now, DASHER! now, DANCER! now, PRANCER and VIXEN!
(2 hands up left right down)
On, COMET! on CUPID! on, DONNER and BLITZEN!
(2 hands lowest, low medium above heads)
So up to the house-top the reindeer soon flew
(flying)
With the sleigh full of toys and St. Nicholas too
(point straight ahead)
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.
(jump)
He was dressed all in fur and his belly was round
(hold belly)
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
(hammering gesture)
And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,
(look left)
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
(finger on side of nose)
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;
(point up)
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
(looking into the distance)
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
(jolly good fellow arm move)
