Homework Expectations
Every night (in addition to daily homework) students should:
-Work no more than an hour
-Read at least 20 minutes
- Spelling words (to study) will be listed on this website when we start Spelling.
(For those who find reading challenging, I recommend listening to an audio recording of the book while reading along.)
-Our novels and any tolls (such as homework sheets or packets) should go home and return to school daily.
Dates listed are when the homework was assigned. Typically, it is due the next day, unless I have given alternate instructions.
There may be additional homework for students who did not complete their classwork.
Reminder: Math tutoring is available during carline on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00-3:30. If your child is struggling in math, I request that they attend at least one of the week's tutoring sessions. If you would specifically like to request tutoring for your child on a Monday or Wednesday, please email me or put tutoring in SchoolPass so that I can make sure they participate.

By Walt Whitman
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won,
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills,
For you bouquets and ribbon’d wreaths—for you the shores a-crowding,
For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning;
Here Captain! dear father!
This arm beneath your head!
It is some dream that on the deck,
You’ve fallen cold and dead.
My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still,
My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will,
The ship is anchor’d safe and sound, its voyage closed and done,
From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won;
Exult O shores, and ring O bells!
But I with mournful tread,
Walk the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Announcements
Please ensure that students are ready for school in their uniforms. Information about dress code is on the school website and in the family handbook, and please remember that student cell phones should be turned off in the morning, and smart watches should be left at home or turned off in the backpack.
If your student is struggling with cursive, please have them practice at home. Reach out to Mrs. Popham if you need resources for this.
