7th Grade
Introduction to Classical Literature
Course Description: In Introduction to Classical Literature, students will read many fascinating, classical literary works. They will dive into delightful poems, enjoy some moving plays, and read works that ask the question about what makes us human. In this course, one of the most important tasks is active engagement with the texts that the class is reading. When students study these great works together, it should be both an independent and collaborative effort. Each text students study might mean something a little different to each person, but when the class comes together as a group, students can share these interpretations with each other, helping everyone to gain a greater understanding of and appreciation for the texts.

Pre-Algebra
Course Description: Pre-algebra is an extension of the Singapore Math K-6 curriculum. It is designed to provide an understanding of real numbers, simple algebraic manipulations, and rudimentary concepts of geometry. It can be considered the foundation for future mathematic courses such as Algebra, Geometry and Calculus.

Life Science
Course Description: This course is designed to provide a foundational understanding of the building blocks of matter and extend this to living matter at the cellular level. It is an exciting time of discovery. It is the first step at developing a scientific mindset about the world. Topics include an introduction to matter, elements and the Periodic Table of Elements, atoms and bonding, chemical reactions, acids/bases/solutions, organic chemistry, cellular structure/function and processes, genetics, and evolution/changes over time.

Foundations of American History
Course Description: This course is designed to develop students' understanding of early American history, philosophy of historical study, and skills of historical analysis. Through narrative, geographical inquiry, and primary source analysis, students will explore American history from discovery to the Civil War. As they study American history, students will hone their thinking, reading, speaking, and writing skills through a variety of projects.

Latin A
Course Description: Using context clues such as a helpful images, hints, and examples, students will encounter Latin grammar and analyze it for patterns in order to determine what is being said. This is a more immersive approach to learning a new language, and students can think of analyzing the text as solving a puzzle. In class students will review vocabulary and grammar, with the largest amount of class time dedicated to reading Latin together. For homework students can expect to reread a section that was covered in class, complete review questions, or study for an upcoming assessment. This will be a course where students can enjoy the process of discovering Latin together.

Course Description: Students will learn and practice note making, outlines, writing from notes, retelling narrative stories, and other skills that will equip them to meet the growing expectations of writing across the classical curriculum.

Introduction to American Literature

Algebra 1
Course Description: In Algebra 1, students will build on and expand upon the mathematical concepts from Prealgebra. They will learn about manipulating algebraic expressions; solving algebraic problems; graphing and functions; inequalities; systems of linear equations; exponents and polynomials; factoring; radicals; and quadratic equations. There will be a mixture of tests, homework assignments, and in-class collaborative work.

Conceptual Physics
Course Description: In Conceptual Physics, students will begin to explore the physical world through the approach of studying the mathematical relationships that exist between natural phenomena. This is a gradual process in which students begin to look at basic laws of movement through kinematics and forces before moving into the fundamental laws of electricity, magnetism, sound and light. This class will be a mixture of discovery through lecture and discussion as well as many hands on labs, which give the students some ownership and practical experience in the sciences.

Course Description: Composition is a grammar and writing class offered to eighth graders. It will provide instruction in analyzing and writing sentences, constructing paragraphs, organizing essays, and will help students learn the writing skills they will use in their other classes.

Middle School Studio Art I
Course Description:Students will study various artistic methods in various media to learn how to create artistic works of their own. We will also explore the artwork of ancient civilizations and the great masters in order to develop a sense of what is True, Beautiful, and Good. Students will consider the virtues of the ages and how they apply to their heart, mind, and soul. Finally, by attaining a basic knowledge of art, students will be better equipped with the tools and virtues needed to effectively communicate their ideas and feelings to others through the arts. It is the expectation that all students will do their personal best in art class just as they would in any other academic endeavor. Students will be encouraged to speak intelligently about art and to see the beauty in the world around them. Students will be required to participate in at least one art show a year.

Middle School Physical Education
Course Description: Upper school physical education is designed to promote lifelong fitness, health, and wellness through a variety of physical activities. Students will engage in individual/team sports, individual fitness challenges, and cooperative games to develop physical, social, coordination, and endurance skills. Physical education emphasizes the importance of cardiovascular health, strength training, flexibility, and proper nutrition. Through engaging lessons, students will explore goal-setting, teamwork, and the benefits of an active lifestyle. Activities may include basketball, soccer, flag football, badminton, archery, team handball, volleyball, circuit training, and outdoor recreation, tailored to student interests and school facilities. Assessments will focus on participation, effort, skill development, and a basic understanding of fitness principles.

Middle School Speech & Debate
Course Description: Students will study the fundamentals of public speaking and debate. Participation in public speaking and debate provides students the opportunity to develop skills in research, communication, persuasion, logic, have differences of opinions with others yet still be able to have a polite and respectful discourse, as well as gain the confidence needed to speak in front of an audience (something that is becoming increasingly critical in our society).

Theatre
Course Description:Introduction to Theatre explores the history, performance, design, and production of theater arts through creative activities. Students will put into action the resources of human thought, feeling, and behavior that are integral in the performance of a role; examine and apply technical methodology (lights, props, costumes, sound) to scenes being performed, and explore the development of theater throughout history. The students will develop physical, vocal, and analytical skills used in creating characterizations and performing and critiquing scenes. Students will also be introduced to career opportunities in theater. This course should develop in students a life-long appreciation and understanding of the art of theater. The course will culminate in a required performance at the end of the year. Performances may include monologues or ensemble scenes.
