Mrs. Armstrong | 9th Grade Logic and Rhetoric | Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Colorado
ABOUT ME
I am originally a Michigander and moved with my husband and three daughters to Northern Colorado three years ago. I have been classically educating for 13 years and received my Master Classical Teacher certificate from the Circe Institute in 2021.
As the literacy specialist at Ascent, I am responsible for overseeing our literacy instruction in the grammar school. I am thrilled to have the added privilege of teaching high school rhetoric, which is one of the highest ends of literacy. When practicing the art of rhetoric, we are decision-making in community for the good of the community. This class is reading and writing in service to a most noble goal.
WHAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO
Our logic and rhetoric class is packed with lively discussion and healthy debate about the 9th grade literature and history texts, as well as a catalogue of classic fairy tales. I absolutely love these stories and the big questions they raise about what it means to be human. I can't wait to engage the 9th graders on:
Whether Achilles should have challenged Agamemnon's authority
Whether Odysseus should have taunted the cyclopes Polyphemus
Whether Alexander the Great should have shown mercy to Athens
Whether Cinderella should have forgiven her stepsisters
WHAT I'M READING RIGHT NOW
The Ethics of Beauty by Dr. Timothy Patitsas
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Nichomachean Ethics by Aristotle
Socratic Logic by Peter Kreeft
