Northern Burlington uses multiple measures to identify gifted students: one measure of identification is the Naglieri Non-verbal Ability Test (NNAT3), a universal screening test used to identify giftedness. The NNAT3 is a non-verbal assessment, which means that anyone can take this test, including twice-exceptional and MLL students. Below is additional information about the identification process:
Registration is open to all Northern students in the spring.
All incoming 6th graders are tested in late winter.
According to Naglieri, students who score within the 98th percentile are considered gifted; however, Northern uses local norms to identify gifted students.
Other measures such as additional standardized scores will be reviewed & considered. External assessments and data points may also be considered.
Once identified, students’ parents are contacted, and students are then invited to enroll in Northern Burlington's Gifted & Talented program.
Students can defer enrollment and enter the program at any time as scheduling permits.
