Your boys begin the 2020 Season with a thrilling 3-2 OT win over a very gritty Perth Amboy team. Yefry Rodriguez led the offensive charge with two goals with Senior defender Kyle Diaz burying one in the back of the net off of a corner. Joseph Juarez, Jharet Aparicio, and Junior Captain Marvin Miranda created the opportunities. Up next your boys take a business trip to the Den in East Brunswick on Tuesday, October 6. #RiseUp #OurStandard #EverythingEarned #BuiltDifferent
Tough draw against JP yesterday. Our family clicked and is playing our best brand of soccer - hats off to the keeper from JP for inhibiting our offensive onslaught!
Back to the lab.
Have a day Rook! Freshman Angel Cortes leads the offensive charge for the Zebras with a hat trick in a 5-3 win over South Brunswick. Joseph Juarez and Yefry Rodriguez each added a goal apiece off of some selfless assists by Captain Jharet Aparicio and Marco Bautista. It truly was a team effort as the defensive crew limited the South Brunswick Vikings to 6 shots on the day. Kevin Velasquez posted 4 saves in between the pipes. Next up, the boys have a showdown with county Monroe, #14 in the state, under the lights at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday at 6 PM! #RiseUp #OurStandard #Together
Thriller in the 08901 last night.
Congrats to @monroehsboyssoccer for edging us out in what was a great game all around. While the end result was not what we had intended for, we learn from our mistakes and get back in the lab.
The Marathon Continues.
GOLAZO! Yefry Rodriguez nets the lone goal off a beautiful run through the middle by Joseph “JJ” Juarez. The entire defensive unit, anchored by keeper, Kevin Velasquez, held the Old Bridge attack to three shots on the day, posting their second clean sheet of the season.
Back to the lab, the grind don’t stop!
El Clàsico. New Brunswick snaps North Brunswick’s undefeated streak at 8 games with a cohesive, dominant performance from top to bottom. Marco Bautista provided a relentless pressure to the oppositions defense that helped the Zebras stymie North Brunswick’s offensive juggernaut in Sebastian Salazar. The Zebras made their way onto the scoreboard when Angel Cortes finished a through ball from Yefry Rodriguez. The Zebras added to their lead when Adrian Gabino buried a header off of a corner by Joseph Juarez. Hats off to the North Brunswick program for persevering and netting a goal with 10 minutes remaining. We always know that regardless of records and time of the season, a win against North Brunswick is always going to be earned. Both teams played with a high level of class and we are thankful we had an opportunity amidst this pandemic to share the field with them.
Back in action today against Perth Amboy at six!
And just like that, your Zebra soccer team finishes their week with a 4-1 win over Perth Amboy. Marlon Maldonado finished a ball off of a service from Yefry Rodriguez while Hector Diaz scores off of his own errant pass to put the Zebras ahead 2-0 after one half. Goalkeeper Kevin Velasquez has been an absolute stonewall in between the pipes, limiting teams ability to create opportunities from crosses, relieving his defense off through ball pressure, and commanding the pace of play out the back. Captain Jharet Aparicio added to the scoreboard in the 2nd half with a 25 yard rocket that slipped through the goalies hands and Angel Cortes put the game out of reach with an unassisted run through the center backs off of nice runs by Hector Diaz and David Canseco that stretched the Perth Amboy defense.
The boys take a bit of a break and pick up where they left off with a three game stretch next week. Thank you to our community for supporting us at home and on the road!
And a shoutout to Coach Jomar for the hours and hours of one on one training with our program keepers - the future is bright in #ZebraNation!
BOW-TEE-STAH! Marco Bautista strikes twice in the 2nd half to give the Zebras a 2-1 win on the road against Princeton Day School. After playing through a scoreless first half against Princeton Day, Marco created yet another one of his signature turnovers to which Yefry Rodriguez countered before playing a through ball between two defenders that found the back of the net off of Bautista’s finish. With less than five remaining, a ball over the top by Joseph Juarez was tracked down by Bautista while he held off the opposition’s center back and buried one in the back of the net to put the Zebras up for good. The boys are back to the lab before a match up at home against the Eagles of Edison at 10 AM on November 4th!
GOLÁZO! Senior striker Yefry Rodriguez leads the offensive outpouring for the Zebras with a hat trick in a 5-2 win over Edison. Striker counterpart Marco “Tony” Bautista contributed with a goal and assist while Joseph Juarez got on the stat sheet with a goal of his own.
The defensive unit continued its dominance over this stretch of wins, limiting the Edison offense to 6 shots on the day, while Kevin Velasquez and freshman co-pilot, Jair Diaz, anchored the net for the Zebras.
However, #JobsNotDone. Back to the lab to prepare for the second leg of El Clásico.
El Clàsico Volume II
Another saga was etched into history between these cross town rivals and what is developing into one of the states best rivalries.
Playing a man down for 25 minutes of the second half and trailing a very well-polished North Brunswick team 2-1, somehow, some way Hector Diaz muscled his shot into the back of the net to give the Zebras the equalizer with 90 seconds remaining. Working with three in the defensive third, the Zebras were able to maintain their offensive explosiveness in overtime. With the ball on the wing, Hector Diaz played an early service into the box that striker Marco Bautista fired into the back of the net off his head etching one of the most memorable comebacks and victories in our program into history.
The boys wrap up their regular season 8-2-1 and now turn their sights to a first round matchup in the Group IV Central East state tournament against Union County rival Plainfield.
Back to the lab.
Your 2020-2021 Boys Soccer team concludes their regular season with a 2-1 win over South Brunswick. A beautiful service in the first half from Joseph Juarez found the back of the net when Yefry Rodriguez attacked it from the air. The Zebras were able to secure their 2nd goal off of a hustle play to keep the ball inbounds by Yefry, who slotted a ball across the box that was tucked into the side panel by Marlon Maldonado.
The Zebras finish their first year back in the GMC red division with a record of 9 wins, 2 losses, and 1 tie. Up next, the Zebras take a few days to prepare for the opening round of the @njsiaa1918 State Playoffs.
Back to the lab, #JobsNotDone.
Round 1 ☑️
Your boys secure a 2-1 win over Union County foe Plainfield to advance to the quarterfinal stage of the @njsiaa1918 state playoffs.
A service from the left wing led to a scramble in front of the net before senior striker Yefry Rodriguez found the back of the net, solidifying his place among the greats with the 50th goal of his Varsity career.
In the 2nd half a throw over the defensive line by Marr Perez allowed Yefry Rodriguez to play a ball across the box to which freshman Angel Cortes launched a left footed blast into the back of the net. A beautiful free kick was taken by the Plainfield CDM to give the Cardinals their lone goal of the day.
1-0, back to the lab.
The Zebras conclude their 2020 season after a heartbreaking loss to a well coached Scotch-Plains Fanwood team, 1-0.
A season in which one was not guaranteed due to the pandemic and one where outside expectations where low, your boys finished with a record of 10 wins, 3 losses, and 1 tie - good for #2 in the GMC Red Division, behind undefeated Monroe.
To our seniors, thank you for your endless sacrifices, passion for the game, and the lightheartedness that made this season, and the past four years, so entertaining.
To our community, thank you for always believing in us and showing up in support at Memorial Stadium. We promise to bring you home a championship.
Regardless of any outcome, so long as we pour every ounce of ourselves into the task at hand, we learn to live with the results. Backs against the wall, no advantage in sight, we do what we do best - persevere and compete. I am my brothers keeper.
This is New Brunswick.
Back to the lab, we got work to do.
