I will talk about my experience of growing up in Bangladesh and how the environment there fostered a passion for service in me. However, I was discouraged by my mindset of not being able to create change as a child due the lack of opportunities catered towards youth there. I quickly realized change is possible when I moved back to America and saw my peers doing all sorts of volunteering. I was motivated by this and embarked on my journey to improve my community through service and understand the significance of youth empowerment and collaboration. My talk will emphasize the ability of youth to create change and how no matter your age, you can always make an impact even if it’s only affecting one person.
In my talk, I will speak about how my family went from failing a small, backyard garden, to growing a completely self-sustaining farm over the course of a few years. Listeners will learn how they can replicate our progress to create their own sustainable backyards, how we can help developing nations thrive off their land, and why sustainability is important for the whole world.
In my talk I will explain how by creating ferric nitrate polymer fertilizer beads that aim to prevent run off pollutants into the enviroment I discovered the power of perseverance and shifitng perspectives to make a change.
The First Step is all about the motivation and power of persistence to make a change in the world, no matter your age. When Aria was 9 years old, she had a chance to meet a NASA astronaut who gave her some advice to help her realize that anything is possible. Realizing the power of taking the first step, Aria was able to take initiative and make a change in her community to install recycling bins around a local popular beach. Now onto her next environmental mission, Aria believes that her formula for change has the ability to inspire anyone, no matter their age.
My talk, while recounting my own personal experiences with school violence and it’s impact on my community, is a call-to-action for students harboring feelings of uneasiness in their day to day academic lives. Both parents and students can learn how to become empowered as an individual and the steps one must take to bring change, starting with acknowledging and seeking help when needed. As teenagers, making large-scale changes to systemic issues can seem like an impossible feat, but the true gateway to change lies within your ability to lead on a local scale.

In my talk, I will be sharing my story and the process of writing and publishing a novel, as well as the challenges that come with it. I will be discussing what I’ve learned so far on my journey and encourage other young readers and writers to persevere through difficulties in order to follow their passions. My goal is to prove that kids can do anything they set their minds to if they never give up.
