Eco Challenge Teams must define an issue, make a plan to address the issue, implement the plan, and report on the results.
In the first challenge, the team choose global warming and food transport as a topic. They grew and counted the produce delivered to the cafeteria and after meeting with cafeteria staff, calculated the food miles saved when the school cafeteria used student grown produce.
In the final challenge, the team will need to take Food Miles Matter global. They will need to encourage other schools to look at their food miles and come up with ways to reduce them. The group collaborating with as many schools as possible, collect as much school gardening data as possible, and ultimately, through their media efforts, encourage other schools, globally, to begin a gardening program.
