Healthy Home Practices during Covid-19
April 9, 2020
Continuing his efforts to protect the health and safety of students and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Tom Wolf today announced that all schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic year. The governor made the decision in consultation with Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine and Secretary of Education Pedro A. Rivera. Secretary Rivera said the administration’s primary consideration has always been to make the best decision in the context of student and community health and safety. Today’s decision applies to all public K-12 schools, brick and mortar and cyber charter schools, private and parochial schools, career and technical centers and intermediate units. All Department of Education early learning program classrooms, including those for Pre-K Counts, Head Start Supplemental Assistance Program (HSSAP) and Preschool Early Intervention, will also remain closed. Secretary Rivera added that all re-openings will be contingent on public health guidance provided by the Secretary of Health and stay-at-home orders issued by the governor.

Harrisburg, PA - As COVID-19 cases continue to grow and the state continues to seek relief to save lives and stop the spread of COVID-19, today Governor Tom Wolf and Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine revised their “Stay at Home” orders to include Carbon, Cumberland, Dauphin and Schuylkill counties, bringing the state total to 26 counties under a stay-at-home order. This order takes effect at 8 p.m., Monday, March 30, 2020, and will continue until April 30. All stay-at-home orders are now extended through April 30. All Pennsylvania schools will remain closed until further notice. Non-life-sustaining business closures remain in effect.
The Department of Education will be providing updated guidance and resources on the continuity of education for students to schools in the coming days.
March 27, 2020
Dear Parents and Community,
The Governor recently extended the school closing through April 6, 2020 with teachers coming back on April 7, 2020. Since April 10, 2020 is Good Friday, Northern Bedford will plan for students to return to school on Monday, April 13, 2020.
The district has been busy finalizing plans based upon information coming from Pennsylvania Department of Education and our politicians. Teachers will utilize Monday and Tuesday (March 30 and 31, 2020) to prepare for student enrichment and review activities. On Wednesday, April 1, all teachers will officially begin providing educational lessons to students and parents on a weekly basis. Teachers will be available from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM to answer student and parent questions via district email. There will be a OneCall from your child’s principal reminding students to begin checking their school email, Canvas, or elementary website prior to Wednesday.
The activities will be provided to students digitally. If you don’t have internet access at home to utilize these digital resources, the district will provide paper resources upon request. Please contact your child’s respective school office (814-766-2221) to make this request.
We will officially conclude the third marking period as of the last day students were in school (March 12). Report cards will be distributed April 13, 2020 for the third marking period.
On a different note, NBC personnel served a total of 363 lunches and 363 breakfasts on Thursday. This operation is available on Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and provides breakfast and lunch for three days for all students free of charge. This will continue during the school closure.
Thank you,
Todd Beatty
