The Los Angeles Lakers icon, Kobe Bryant, died at the age of 41. He passed away suddenly due to a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California. This crash killed everyone on board, including Kobe’s 13-year-old daughter, Gianna. The investigation into the crash is still ongoing according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s department. All passengers on the helicopter have been identified, according to CBS News. The helicopter was on its way to a youth basketball event at Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California.
John Altobelli, who was a baseball coach at Orange Coast College, was also killed in this crash along with his daughter Alyssa and wife Keri. Even though there were foggy conditions, the chopper carrying these victims was given “special permission” to go on their trip. According to CNN, the weather conditions caused the helicopter to fly quite low due to the suspicion the pilot wasn’t aware of how low he was. The traffic controller informed the pilot seconds before the tragedy that, “You’re still too low for flight following at this time”, which means the chopper was so low it wasn’t registering on the radar.
As the investigation into this crash continues, the community has shown immaculate support for the family of the deceased. Friends of Kobe like Shaq, Kevin Durant, and more have shown their love and heartache through social media.

The Irwin family has saved 90,000 animals or even more. Many students at Lake Shore High School in Saint Clair MI have been making pouches for animals, like kangaroos and bats, to help the firefighters carry the animals out of dangerous areas in Australia. 6-year-old Owen Colley from Massachusetts has raised and donated over 250k for the wildfire efforts by making clay koalas. Joni Gramm in Virginia is knitting pouches and mittens for them. The raging wildfires has claimed around 25 live and over a billion animal lives.
Many animals are going extinct, like the Kangaroo Island Dunnart, the Glossy Black Cockatoo, the Hastings River Mouse, the Eastern Bristlebird, and the Greater Glider.

Have there been times where you walked down the street and saw a person sitting, sleeping, or holding a sign asking for food? Did you stop and help them?
If you didn’t, don’t hate yourself.
You’re not the only one who hasn’t stopped to help the people in need. Thousands of people around the world are homeless and starving, but the thousands more people who aren’t shrug their shoulders and don’t do anything because they think that it's not a big deal, or they aren’t being truthful about it.
The Reasons People are Homeless:
The most common reason for a man to be homeless is because they were in the military/army and were retired veterans. Why is this? Well because when you come out of the military, or army they’re supposed to give you a lot of cash for your services. Sometimes they can’t give it to you right away and so they tell you they will send it via mail, but you may never receive it. This makes them wait longer, and so they never get a job to support themselves because they think “the money should come tomorrow” or next week, or next year. By the time they realize it's never coming, it's too late and they become homeless. 90% of U.S. homeless veterans are male. About 37,878 homeless men and women were veterans in January of 2017.
The most common reason for a woman to become homeless is because she is a single mother without someone to support her. Most women have to work 3-4 jobs but are more likely to get fired because they can’t work minimum hours every week. This is how women become homeless and how children become homeless in the U.S.
How do I Help the Homeless?
Most of the time we turn our shoulders to the homeless because we think too highly of ourselves. We think “ it's their problem they’re homeless, why should I help them?”, so to start off I would say the world should put up their sharing wall and be nice by feeding them food, or just give them money to help them get their own food.
If you think they are not being truthful about them being homeless, or being a veteran who is homeless, just feed them anyways. At least you made someone's day and you were nice to someone you thought was in need of assistance.
How do I Approach the Homeless?
Just approach them how you would approach a really good friend. Start off by saying “hi”, then ask them if they would like any food, water, or anything that you could give them at the time. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone once in a while.
How can I be sure they are Homeless?
You can never really be sure if they are unless it's really obvious, like they’re sleeping on the streets or in between buildings. Either way, don’t judge what you see on the outside. If you have this gut feeling of “ I want to help that person” do it! Don’t back down from that feeling
because it’ll only grow stronger and fiercer. Sometimes the feeling can be annoying but once you help them you’ll feel a lot better about yourself. At least once you’ve done it you can say “I just helped someone in need”.
There may be a lot of homeless men, women, and children in the world, but there are also many people who do have money, homes, and food. Be that 1 person in the world who isn’t afraid to help the people in need of assistance. I’m not saying “give them a roof over their heads” I’m just saying to just give them a little shove towards a better future, a better life, and to give them a little more faith in themselves.

America today is separated with the reds versus the blues, Republican versus Democrat, etc. America is as divided as ever with how much political parties affect people’s choices as to who they socialize with. Imagine a country without labels and stereotypes, a world where voters would have to look closer at the candidates without a bias to affect their opinions. Elections are supposed to be a contest of ideas for the country, not a popularity contest which is the path elections are going down.
Many politicians rely on the party they identify with to reach “their people”. I find this style of voting a way to deceive people instead of candidates covering what they’ll actually do once in office. Members of the government would be forced to work together to solve problems. For example, when the trump impeachment was going on, we knew the political parties in the house and knew how the majority was going to vote. Imagine how many of those leaders voted for or against trump purely based on their political party and how the others would view them if they voted the opposite way.
I’m asking the future voters of America to turn away from relying on labels, ignore the outrageous amount of Tweets, and focus on the moral value of someone who could possibly lead our country. Hopefully, this won’t be a vision for America, but one day be the vision of America outside countries can see.
Congratulations! Bring your winning ticket to rm 25 to claim your prize!!

The Bulldog Pageant is a nonprofit program that opens to the public in May. This program has many features to it, such as musical productions, comedic acts, emotional interludes, all performed by students from North Bend High School. Various fundraising events that are planned are yard sales, movie night, and Kozy Night.
The profits from these events will go to Every Child Coos County. This is a charity who makes it their goal to support vulnerable families in the Coos County area. Part of the work they do is give welcome boxes to children as they enter new foster homes, comforting kids who spend a lot of time at DHS, and more. This organization and program reach out to foster kids in the community and you can too.
You should definitely attend these amazing performances or the well-organized fundraising events. For more information, you can contact the office or information or the student in charge, Hassaan Qadir.

On the most recent Halloween night, a few suspects broke into the North Bend High School and stole the Chromebooks from the library. After our school resource officer’s investigation, an anonymous person told Officer George that they knew where the stolen Chromebooks were being hidden. This anonymous person also led the officer to the area of the woods that these Chromebooks were being kept. They were found wrapped in multiple trash bags and shoved in the dirt. Luckily, the Chromebooks were all recovered and are still usable. They were returned to the school’s library for further educational use.

Mulan is a classic Disney movie with 120 million dollars in the box office. Based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the 1998 musical follows the story of a girl who pretends to be a boy so she could fight in the war instead of her father, who had no sons to fight for him. Along the way, she is guided by a dragon named Mushu and a small lucky cricket. One of the main characters is Li Shang, who has recently been removed from the new 2020 Mulan live-action remake.
The reason why is simple; the #MeToo movement. This movement is a feminist movement about fighting against sexual harassment, sexual assault, and consent. The producers removed him, claiming his relationship with Mulan was “inappropriate” because of the uprising movement. Instead, Disney split the single love interest into two different characters, and neither of them being love interests. The first character, Tung (played by Donnie Yen) and the second, Honghui (played by Yoson An).
In addition to Li Shang’s removal, Mulan’s tiny dragon guardian, Mushu, will also not be in the 2020 film, along with all of the songs. They also added a sister for Mulan, which was not in the original movie. Mulan, who was originally played by Ming-Na Wen, will now be portrayed by Liu Yifei.

In October 1958, history was made. The first-ever video game came to life. This was a pong-like game, created by physicist William Higinbotham. It was officially created into the video game we all know as Pong in 1972. Similar games were created like Galaga in 1981, and Tetris in 1984.
Video game consoles were always a big stepping stone for video game history. In 1972, the first video game console was created. It was Magnavox Odyssey, released by Magnavox. It was a pretty generic console that connected to a TV and had a controller. Many consoles were created after this, such as the Sega Genesis in 1989, the PlayStation in 1994, the Nintendo 64 in 1996, and the first hand-held gaming consoles, the Lynx and the Game Boy both in 1989. Both hand-held consoles inspired the first double-screened console, Nintendo’s DS in 2004, which a new model, 2DS XL, will be released this summer. Newer TV-connecting consoles include the PS2 in 2000, the Xbox in 2001, the Xbox 360 in 2005, the Wii and PS3 both in 2006, the Wii U in 2012, the PS4 in 2013. The Nintendo Switch (2017) can be used as both hand-held and TV-connecting.
Now, moving on to video game companies. Sega (founded 1960) was the main pioneer of the gaming industry, but it slowly started to go downhill as more companies like Nintendo (1889), Sony (1946), Microsoft (1975), Valve (1996), and Square Enix (1975) started creating video games too. Whether you know it or not, you probably have heard of each of these companies. Sega owns games like Sonic The Hedgehog. Nintendo owns Mario and Pokemon and has created famous consoles like Gameboy, DS, and Switch. Sony is mostly known for it’s PlayStation lineup. Microsoft, despite not having much to do with gaming, has created the Xbox lineup. Valve is responsible for the gaming platform Steam and has created other original games like Half Life. Square Enix is mostly known for games like Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts as an association with Disney.
Over the years, gaming has become a bigger and bigger industry. A lot of people now play video games for a living, and there are even competitions for games like Fortnite and Overwatch. Some of the biggest YouTubers do gaming, such as PewDiePie, Markiplier, and Jacksepticeye. From the first videogame to now, gaming has grown so much, and it’s become such a big part of modern culture.

If you’ve watched a movie or TV show, you’ve heard a film score before, whether you’re aware of it or not. When you think of movies with iconic music, such as The Avengers, or Mission Impossible, you can hear the music playing in your head. Whether you know it or not, those are film scores. Within older movies, this music was absolutely necessary. There even used to be movies with no words, and just music. Now, film scores have become more background than anything. Sometimes film scores are even called “background music”. Why has the role of music within movies changed so much?
Big-name composers such as Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, and John Williams have all written film scores that are memorable. For Hans Zimmer, he had written scores such as The Dark Night, Man Of Steel, and Pirates Of The Caribbean. Alan Silvestri is known for his composition of The Avengers. John Williams has written many iconic pieces, such as Jaws, Star Wars, and Jurassic Park. What makes these composers so memorable? Was it the movie or the film score?
The correct answer was the score. As I watch new movies I tend to find myself listening more to the score than what the characters are saying (not unless it’s got a truly intriguing storyline and characters). I tend to find the movies that become iconic are the ones with memorable themes. Though, I tend to have noticed more and more movies have been making themes to their movies. Themed film scores have started to revolve more around TV shows than movies, such as The Flash, Stranger Things, and The Mandalorian.
Film scores, over time, have gone from being the main course to the side dish. When they do appear, it’s not much, usually just a few notes, or the repetitive few measures. Either way, someone created it, and someone worked on it, and I think that’s something we can all acknowledge. Maybe this helps you think about the music in the movies you watch.

One Piece is a pirate adventure manga written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda, created in July 1997. The manga is well known for employing colorful and creative motifs that are taken from classic Japanese mythology, politics and musical aspects. It is also mixed with pirate lore and shonen formula.
One Piece is divided into two halves: Sea of survival: Super rookies saga, and The Final Sea: The New World Saga. Eiichiro Oda was inspired by Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball and Dr. slump at a young age. As a child, he was inspired by the animated series “Vicky the Viking” and wanted to draw a pirate manga series. Later he created “Pandaman” for Yudetamago’s Kinnikuman. In 1992, Oda at the age of 17, submitted the manga titled “Wanted!”. This got him recognized as a promising mangaka by the staff members of the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine and became an assistant under several established manga writers including Shinobu Kaitani, Masaya Tokuhiro, and finally Nobuhiro Watsuki.
The actual story of One Piece itself is a very interesting topic. 22 years ago, the pirate king, Gol D. Roger, was executed. However, before his death, he revealed to everyone that his treasure, the One Piece, was hidden at the end of the Grand Line. This inspired people to become pirates and sail toward the treasure, beginning the Great Age of Pirates. Twelve Years later, a young boy from the East Blue Sea named Monkey D. Luffy dreamed of finding the One Piece but lost the ability to swim after eating a Devil Fruit giving him the ability to stretch his body like rubber. He was given a straw hat by the pirate Shanks, who would later go on to become a Yonko, one of the four most powerful pirates in the world, on the agreement that he would return the hat once he became a pirate and surpassed Shanks.
Ten years passed, and Luffy set off to sea at the age of 17. His family infamy began to grow as he formed the Straw Hat Pirates and defeated some of the East Blue’s most notorious pirates. He recruited four crewmates: Roronoa Zoro, who sought to become the greatest swordsman in the world, Usopp who sought to make a map of the world. He entered the Grand Line with a bounty of 30,000,000 belly ( the currency in One Piece) and was pursued by Smoker of the marines. In the Grand Line, Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates became involved in a plot to dismantle the criminal organization Baroque Works, led by Crocodiles of the Shichibukai, seven pirates who work for the World Government. The Straw Hats defeated Crocodile and dismantled Baroque Works, earning the attention of the higher-ranked officials in the World Government. They gained two crewmates in the process, Tony Tony Chopper, who sought to cure every illness, and the mysterious Nico Robin, formerly the second in command of Baroque Works.
The Straw Hats continued sailing through the Grand Line, but the conditions caused their ship, the Going Merry, to take irreparable damage.
Also, Robin turned herself into the government to save the Straw Hats from being annihilated. However, Luffy and his crew refused to let her go and invaded the judicial island Enies Lobby, defeating the powerful group of government assassins known as CP9. During the battle, it was revealed that Robin sought to find out about a lost 100 years of history which the World Government does not want to be revealed. The Straw Hats succeeded in rescuing Robin, but the Going Merry was ultimately destroyed after they escaped. However, they gained a new crewmate in Franky, who wanted to build a ship to go around the world, and he built them the Thousand Sunny. The destruction of Enies Lobby caused the Straw Hats to be seen as even more of a threat, and every crew member received a bounty.
The Straw Hats sailed into the Florian Triangle, where they encountered Brook, a skeleton who wanted to reunite with Laboon, a whale his old crew was friends with many decades ago. The Straw Hats defeated another Shichibukai, Gecko Moria, and Brook joined their crew. Meanwhile, a pirate known as Blackbeard captured Portgas D. Ace, Luffy’s adopted brother, and turned him into the government to be executed. The Straw Hats went to the Sabaody Archipelago, alongside nine other pirates with bounties over 100,000,000 belly, known as the Eleven Supernovas. However, chaos erupted due to Luffy punching a World Noble. The Shichibukai Bartholomew Kuma and robot replicas of himself overwhelmed the Straw Hats and sent them flying to different islands all around the world. Separated from his crew, Luffy decided to go save Ace from his impending execution.
Luffy managed to break into Impel Down, the government’s top prison facility but failed to reach Ace in time. He then led a mass breakout, and the other prisoners helped him reach Marinford, where Ace is set to be executed. War broke out in Marineford as Whitebeard, one of the Yonko and Ace’s captain, led his crew in a battle against the Marines, and they were later joined by Luffy and the Impel Down prisoners. Luffy was revealed to be the son of Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Band of Revolutionaries seeking to bring down the World Government, and Ace was revealed to be Roger’s son. Luffy managed to free Ace, but Ace was killed after saving Luffy from Admiral Akainu. Luffy was taken out of the battlefield as Whitebeard was overwhelmed by the Marines. Suddenly, Blackbeard arrived with his crew, killed Whitebeard, and took his Devil Fruit power. Shanks then arrived and ended the war.
Anguished by his inability to save Ace, Luffy sent a message to his crew telling them to train and grow stronger for two years.
Two years later, the Straw Hats returned to the Grand Line and entered the New World. In the New World, they allied with Trafalgar Law, one of the Eleven Supernovas, who sought to bring Kaido of the Yonko. They traveled through Punk Hazard and Dressrosa to destroy factories supplying artificial Devil Fruits to Kaido and took down the Shichibukai Donquixote Doflamingo in the process. The crew also became involved with the Big Mom Pirates, who took Sanji for a political marriage. The Straw Hats and their allies successfully rescued Sanji, and Jinbe, a fish-man and a former Schichibukai whose dream was to achieve peace between humans and fish-men joined the crew.

The Elder Scrolls is a series of action role-playing video games Primarily developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The series mainly focuses on an open-world gaming aspect. The series is so successful that Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim all won Game of the Year awards from multiple outlets. Worldwide this series has over 58 million copies.
Within the series’ fictional universe, each game takes place on the continent of Tamriel. The setting combines some pre-medieval real-world elements, such as a powerful Roman-like empire, with high fantasy tropes, including limited technology, widespread magic use, and the existence of many mythical creatures. The continent is split into a number of provinces inhabited by humans and popular humanoid fantasy races such as elves, orcs, and anthropomorphic animals. A common theme throughout the lore is that a chosen hero rises to defeat an incoming threat, usually a malevolent being or an antagonistic army.
Ever since the debut of “Arena” in 1994, the series has produced a total of five main games( of which the last three have each featured two or three expansions) as well as several spin-offs. In 2014, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls Online, was released by Bethesda’s affiliated ZeniMax subsidiary ZeniMax Online Studios.
Arena was the first official Elder Scrolls game, created by Peterson and Lakshman who were joined by Julian Lefay who, according to Peterson, “really spear-headed the initial development of the series”. Peterson, Lashkman, and Lefay were longtime aficionados of pen-and-paper role-playing games, which greatly influenced the creation of the world Tamriel. They were also fans of Looking Glass Studios’ Ultima Underworld series, their main inspiration for Arena. Initially, Arena was not meant to be a role-playing game at all. The player, and a team of his fighters, would travel about a world fighting other teams in their arenas until the player became “grand champion” in the world’s capital, the imperial city. Along the way, side quests of a more role-playing nature could be completed.
After Arena was released everyone who created the game had doubts about how the game will do. Nevertheless, sales began to grow and grow, their initial 20,000 units of the games sold out within the year and after that, the fans asked for more. The game developers had come through for the fans thus creating “The Elder Scrolls II Daggerfall”. Daggerfall was the start of something great, you now have a new aspect of a game that you’ve never had before, the open world aspect. A world influenced by Great Britain and was similar in size with over 15,000 towns and with a population of 750,000. The game was released on August 31, 1996.
The game was once again a massive hit, and as fans completed the game they wanted more, this when everything really took off. Over the following years, Bethesda released many more games which include, Battlespire and Redguard, Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Online Legends, Skyrim pinball, Blades, and finally with the release of the new game this year The Elder Scrolls VI. The main jumping point of what Bethesda knew what they were going to do was with Morrowind. The very successful open-world fantasy game that grew so much it has sprouted three others that follow roughly the same storyline.
But the most popular of them all is Skyrim. This massively successful game is in many people’s opinions the best Elder Scrolls game yet and my personal favorite. Now with the new release of Elder Scrolls VI fans are speechless with seeing the animation testing and now only leaves us waiting to see what is to come.

If you have a YouTube channel of any sorts, no matter if you’ve uploaded on it or not, you’ve most likely heard of COPPA. If you haven’t, then you didn’t read the latest installment to the rules of YouTube. You probably just skipped over that part and clicked “I agree” without second thoughts. Though if you’re not careful, this small skipped over step can cost you greatly.
On November 22, 2019, YouTube signed an agreement with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act or COPPA. This agreement adds an extra checkbox to the video uploading screen asking if the content is for kids or not. It looks like just another insignificant box to click, and you might do it brainlessly, but a simple click of a box can determine how much money is in your pocket in the end.
Falsely clicking “for kids” or “not for kids” even by accident, YouTube has the legal right to fine you up to $42,530 per violation. Videos released before the agreement with COPPA may be taken down by YouTube, automatically be checked as “for kids” or “not for kids”, or even fined as a violation.
Though this may seem alright at first, it gets worse. If a YouTuber marks their content as for kids, then their content will not show up in the recommended section for YouTube, meaning the only way to watch the video was to go directly to the YouTuber’s channel or to search directly for the video-specific video. This makes it more difficult for YouTubers to grow, making it harder for a lot of them to do what they do for a living. Also, comments will be disabled on child-friendly content, meaning YouTubers can’t gain feedback on their work, which also hinders one’s job. Videos marked as “for kids” will also not have money made on the video, which means YouTubers can’t gain money from hard work they have put into each video. Keep in mind that if you falsely put a video as “not for kids” then you will be fined.
Not just YouTubers are complaining about YouTube’s agreement with COPPA. Here are a few comments at the Federal Trade Commission website on the subject matter:
“It is the parent’s responsibility to make sure their children aren’t going on sites or channels they shouldn’t be… in my opinion, I think this is just another way for those in power to try and pull the control of people finding alternative ways to generate income that leaves them out. It’s ridiculous,” says one person.
“I absolutely agree with whoever you are. YouTube to me is a REAL job and I am absolutely scared that my channel could become nothing. My videos are ‘kid-friendly’ but they are not intended for children at all. Also, I am just a starting channel and I can’t afford losing it now,” responds another.
In conclusion, COPPA and YouTube need to find a better agreement to work through, since this is shaping to be a hindering step for YouTubers that can either make or break their wallet. Many YouTubers are struggling with the agreement with COPPA, and a lot of them are losing money fast because they can’t make content that still follows the channel’s theme and what is not child-friendly.

Nickelodeon’s animated show, Avatar: The Last Airbender, aired in 2005, and was a big hit for television and continues to be successful. Netflix has picked this show up and is ready to make a live-action remake of this. However, fans are nervous about this idea because this has tried to be done before and was poorly received. The ratings from the M. Night Shyamalan’s version of Avatar according to IMDb are a weighted average of 4.1/10.
When news of this new live-action show hit, not many fans were too thrilled about. When Netflix picked it up they asked the creators of Avatar, Michael Dante DiMartino, and Bryan Konietzko, to be the executive producers and showrunners. The composer Jeremy Zuckerman is also going to return to the scene. We still don’t know much about what is going to happen as they are still writing the script and do not have cast members, that we know of.
“We’re thrilled for the opportunity to helm this live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to build upon everyone’s great work on the original animated series and go even deeper into the characters, story, action, and world-building. Netflix is wholly dedicated to manifesting our vision for this retelling, and we’re incredibly grateful to be partnering with them,” creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko say hopefully.

All over the world anime is loved and cherished. But where did it all start? What was the very first anime, this is what this article is all about. I will be going through the anime that started it all. It’s what has created a massive following and a culture of people opening up and who are not afraid to be themselves.
The anime in talking is Imokawa Mukuzo Genkanban no Maki, this film was once considered the first professional Japanese animated film ever made. It was made by Oten Shimokawa in 1917 to be shown in the cinema, in this case, in the Asakusa Kinema Kurabu, a theater in Tokyo managed directly by the film company, Tenkatsu. It was preceded by Shimokawa’s early work (dekobo shingacho-Meian no shippai, Bumpy new picture book - Failure of a great plan) and Otogawa Shinzo Gate of the entrance from January 1917.
In 1916, Tenkatsu began experimenting with animation with the manga artist Hekoten/Oten Shimokawa. Shimokawa produced the animation by drawing with chalk on a blackboard, redrawing as necessary to create the animation effect. Mukuzo Imokawa was a manga character that Shimokawa used in his manga. After the launch of this new anime more and more companies started sprouting up creating many different animations but it was far more different back then than it was now. Back then anime was mainly created with chalk, but as time went on and anime started to become more well known they started to use computers to animate their work. It may differ from how they make it with the computers, some companies use these computers to draw their characters while others have used the computers to do the animation for them.
For me, I am very grateful for this anime because if it weren’t for this to have been created we would’ve never gotten any of the beautiful anime we know and love. Although it may not compare to the kinds of anime that are out now, but without it, the other anime companies would’ve never existed so that’s just something to think about.
