The Eugene Ashley HS NJROTC Academic team commander is LTJG McNamara
The academic team is for those big brain cadets who can press a button quickly and answer questions (correctly) even quicker. Those who are dedicated to studying the NJROTC curriculum in great depth.
Cadets must study for at least pop culture, world history, geography, General NJROTC knowledge, military knowledge or more.
Traveling to different schools for academic competitions like brain brawl. Academics is a core part of any NJROTC unit. Academics consists of Brain Brawl, 50-question academic exams at combination meets, National Academic Exam (NAE), and JROTC Leadership Academic Bowl (JLAB).

AWARDS for Curriculum
Academic Award : Awarded to any cadet who is a member of the Academic Team or has made the school's Honor Roll
Honor Cadet : Awarded YEARLY to one cadet in each year group with the highest overall academic achievement (GPA) in school, including the naval science courses.
Honor roll star : Awarded to any cadet who attains school honor roll status
