NJROTC Competitive Teams Overview

Academics Team
Prepares for academic competitions like Brain Brawls, National Academic Exam, and Joint Leadership and Academic Bowl (JLAB).
Activities: Study Naval Science, math, science, and leadership; compete in quiz-style events using buzzers.
Competitions: Local, regional, and national levels; includes Brain Brawls, JLAB, and drill meet academics.
Selection: Top performers on a unit-wide test join the team.
Skills: Knowledge retention, quick thinking, teamwork.
Athletics Team
Focuses on physical fitness, teamwork, and drill competitions.
Activities: Physical training (push-ups, sit-ups, running), drill competitions (armed/unarmed), and team events like the Physical Team Test.
Competitions: Local events and national Navy Nationals.
Skills: Strength, endurance, precision, leadership, cooperation.
Specialty: Some units have "Raider" teams for advanced physical challenges.
CyberPatriot Team (Coming Soon)
Competes in the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, securing virtual networks.
Activities: Identify and fix vulnerabilities in virtual operating systems while maintaining services like email.
Competitions: Multiple online rounds; top teams advance to National Finals.
Skills: Cybersecurity, problem-solving, analytical thinking.
Rewards: Scholarships and national recognition for top teams.
Drill Team
Performs synchronized military movements with or without rifles.
Activities: Compete in drill meets, perform at ceremonies/parades, and create exhibition routines.
Types: Armed (with rifles), unarmed, or exhibition (creative routines).
Skills: Precision, discipline, leadership, coordination.
Events: School events, parades, and competitive drill meets.

Competes in aerial drone challenges focusing on piloting and programming.
Activities: Navigate obstacle courses, program autonomous flights, and complete tasks like landing challenges.
Competitions: Speed courses, NFO (Not Following Orders) events, and teamwork missions.

Orienteering Team
Competes in navigation events using maps and compasses.
Activities: Find checkpoints on a course, practice map reading, and plan routes.

Builds and competes with underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).
