Big Shanty Parade - On Saturday, 20 April the North Cobb-Harrison NJROTC unit will be participating in the 2024 Big Shanty Parade in downtown Kennesaw. Cadets participating need to be at the Ben Robinson located at 2753 Watts Dr, Kennesaw, GA 30144 no later than 8:30am. This will give the unit enough time to muster and get into place. The parade begins at 9:30am and takes about 45min to complete. Uniform of the day will be NSU's. Max participation is encouraged. Click here if you want to participate.

Upcoming Events

Social Studies Fair Usher Detail - On Saturday 13 April, cadets will be supporting Cobb County Social Studies Fair hosted by NCHS. The uniform will be a unit t-shirt/Navy sweatshirt and khaki pants. 6 to 8 cadets are asked to be here at 7:30am. Click here if you want to support the unit.

North Cobb Honors Night - On Tuesday, 16 April, cadets will be supporting the NCHS staff for our annual Honors Night that will be located in the PAC. Cadets will be responsible for ushering honorees and parents into the PAC. The uniform will be a unit polo with khaki pants. The event will be from 5pm - 7:30pm. Spring Fling at Acworth Elementary - On Friday 19 April, cadets will be supporting the Acworth Elementary staff in their annual Spring Fling located at 4220 Cantrell Rd NW, Acworth, GA 30101. The event will consist of cadets supervising and assisting the elementary students getting on and off the jumpy thingy's. The uniform will be a unit t-shirt/Navy sweatshirt, khaki pants, and closed toed shoes. The event will be from 5pm - 7:30pm. Click here if you want to support the unit.

Superior Plumbing Big Shanty Festival  - On Saturday & Sunday, 20-21 April 2024, cadets will be supporting our Superior Plumbing family during the Big Shanty Festival. The uniform will be a unit t-shirt/Navy sweatshirt, khaki pants, and closed toed shoes. There will be three Saturday shifts; 10am-1pm, 1pm-3:30pm, & 3:30pm-6pm. Sunday's shifts will be 12pm-2:30pm & 2:30pm-5pm. Click here if you want to support the unit.

Congratulations to Cadet Noah Praser for earning the Joseph C. Gilliam Award!

Each year, a handful of Navy JROTC students across the country are selected to receive the Joseph C. Gilliam Academic Achievement Award. North Cobb - Harrison's Unit had never had a cadet earn the award, until this year, when Harrison School senior and Navy JROTC Cadet Lieutenant Noah Praser was named a winner of the award for 2024. As the Navy JROTC Area 9 winner, Praser becomes one of only thirteen  recipients nationwide to receive the honor this year. Cadets Parser consistently displays leadership, discipline, intelligence, and initiative well above his peers. Along with this high achievement Cadet Praser has also secured his appointment to the United States Naval Academy and will be attending next September. Make sure to congratulate Cadet Praser for his outstanding performance and his phenomenal achievement. 

Orienteering Navy Nationals 

The North Cobb-Harrison NJROTC Orienteering Team competed at the National level championship over the weekend. The 14 cadets traveled to Kings Mountain, NC where they competed in the 3-day competition. Great job to all those who competed in this rigorous event.  The team placed 7th overall competing against 21 other schools.Congratulations to cadet Alexis Holmes for  placing 9th overall on her respective course.

North Cobb- Harrison competed in the Area drill competition on saturday, March 2nd. The unarmed basic placed 5th and the unarmed exhibition coming in 3rd place. The unit has worked hard with determination and grit achieving a respective 10th place in the Area. Drill cadets describe this competition as both a fun and challenging experience. 

On February 10th , 2024 the unit held its annual military ball at the Marietta Country club. This event consisted of a traditional ceremony including the MIA and POW table. Along with a sword arch to honor our seniors. Cadets had a great time with their peers and senior parents. 

Congratulations Academic Team! 

This past weekend the Brain Brawl team competed in an area meet; held at Sprayberry high school alongside 12 other schools, placing 2nd overall. A huge congratulations to those on the Academic team, we wish many more wins to come!

Orienteering team qualifies for nationals 

Congratulations to our orienteering team for making 3rd at the Area championship! The next step is Nationals, where they will be competing in South Carolina. Individual placements include; Bryson, Jaidin 1st, Thomas, Ashley 4th, Holmes, Alexis 5th, Enman, August 5th. Make sure to give a big congratulations to the Orienteering team for their effort and and a good luck at nationals!

Cadets travel to the Superior Flight School 

Today 32 of our cadets traveled to the Superior Flight school(SFS) at Mccollum Airport to explore their aviation interests. Over this three hour trip cadets were able to ask questions about careers in aviation, practice landings on flight simulators, and learn the basics of an aircraft. Their program offers a variety of courses including private pilots license, instrument comprehension courses, and commercial licensing opportunities. This was a great opportunity for those interested in future aviation careers!

Veterans day Orienteering Meet

During the Veterans day weekend, the Orienteering team traveled to Fort Yargo State park. Finishing 4th place overall and 2nd in yellow. Cadets to be recognized are Thomas, Ashley 2nd place and Waddell, Logan 5th place! Make sure to congratulate these cadets for their great performance. 

Annual Feed the Hungry 

Keystone Baptist Church held its annual Feed the Hungry, turning bulk food into individual packages and boxes. This is the 4th year of North Cobb-Harrisons support to the event, both Cadets and parents helped package over 50,000 serving sizes. Special thanks to those who took time out of their Saturday to lend a helping hand to our community! 

Kennesaw E Recycling

Last Saturday 15 cadets helped out Kennesaw's E recycling team. Helping to organize and move recycled material that was dropped off by local residents. Great job to all the cadets who spent time to help create a greener community!

AMI

On wednesday October 4th, 2023, The North Cobb- Harrison NJROTC Unit held our AMI (Annual Military Inspection) ! The cadets joined together to present the unit to our new Area 9 Manager CDR Matt, Jordan, United States Navy, Retired, and overall did an outstanding job! The AMI consisted of platoon uniform inspection, ceremony, an Unarmed Exhibition performance, and Pass and Review. 

North Georgia State Fair- Superior Plumbing 

From September 22nd  to October 2nd cadets volunteered their Fall Break to support the superior Plumbing Family. Cadets worked in 4- hour shifts to bring kind smiles to everyone they encountered. In total we earned 220 hours of community service from this event alone! We appreciate the cadets who showed up and represented the unit! 

Mountain Madness Orienteering Meet 

On september 17th members of the orienteering team competed in the Hillgrove hosted Mountain Madness Orienteering meet. The team placed 4th overall, qualifying for the Area championship! Congratulations to the cadets who also received a medal for top 5 placement on their respective courses. c/ Ella Thidemann 2nd (yellow y), c/Nathaniel Jordan 3rd (yellow x), and c/ Holmes, Alexis 3rd (orange x)  

1st place at Mcdonough Fun Drill Meet 

Who are we? NORTH COBB! This past weekend our drill team traveled to Mcdonough highschool to compete in the annual McDonough Fun Drill Meet, placing 1st overall. Both new and returning cadets had a wonderful time while performing drill basics, exhibitions, and athletics. Make sure to congratulate the drill cadets for their hard work and a job well done!

Cadets Travel to The Clay National Guard Center 

On September 1st, 25 cadets traveled to the Clay National Guard center to learn more about what the National Guard has to offer. In addition, getting the opportunity to meet some of Georgia's very own Falcons players. This event showcased many different MOS's (Military Occupational Specialties) the National Guard provides, and gave cadets a chance to communicate with individuals who are currently serving. Nevertheless this event was a great experience for cadets to gain knowledge, and since we are a Navy unit don't forget, Go Navy, Beat Army! 

2023 Unit Welcome Aboard Picnic 

Welcome aboard to all the new cadets, we are so excited to have you this year! After holding our annual picnic, cadets were able to experience new connections with all their fellow classmates along with upper class students and leadership. This picnic creates new memories that cadets will value throughout their time in JROTC. In addition, we would like to extend this warm welcome to our new SNSI, Commander Phillip Pascoe.

2023 Freshman Orientation 

As the 2022-2023 summer break is quickly fading, the North Cobb-Harrison NJROTC unit held its annual Freshman Orientation on July 11th –July 13th. Throughout the tedious three-day event, cadets embarked on their new journey of NJROTC. During the program new cadets gained an understanding of classroom procedures, Core knowledge, and Drill, as well as team and staff information. Each day consisted of a new activity. Cadets were able to get an inside look at each department and team while also having the opportunity to speak with their respective leaders. The success of this event has led to an exciting new approach and welcome to the new NS1’s!

Cadets Earn Coveted "Silver Cord" After Completing Leadership Academy 

Six cadets graduated from A12's Leadership Academy (LA) that took place 11-17 June 2023 at the Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, GA. The cadets were selected based off of their potential leadership skills, as well as unit participation, physical fitness, and academic excellence as a cadet in the unit. The cadets were subjected to a grueling schedule while participating in LA to include daily PT, academic studies, close order drill, uniform standards, as well as academic subjects involving Naval customs, traditions, and core values that are held deeply in the program. Cadets were challenged with coming up with new ideas and concepts that will help take the NJROTC concept into a new era. Now it's time for these new LA graduates to pass along all of the knowledge and skills they learned to the rest of the unit. Bravo Zulu cadets...you earned your "Silver Cord"! 

Cadets Travel to Washington DC For Summer Trip

A group of 24 North Cobb~Harrison NJROTC Cadets traveled this past week to our nations capital Monday-Saturday, 5-10 June 2023. Over a five-day During the trip, cadets received tours at the Pentagon, U.S. Capital, and Arlington Cemetery to name just a few. Cadets also witnessed a live performance of the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team, during the 8th & I Marine Barracks Evening Parade. Cadets were also treated to other sights and tours in the DMV (DC, Maryland, & Virginia Area) to included Fort Gregg-Adams, the U.S. Naval Academy and Kings Dominion Amusement Park. Cadets were able to visit famous  Lincoln, Washington, MLK, Vietnam, Korean, & WWII memorials along the D.C. mall. The cadets had a great time gaining a better understanding of the importance of our nations capital while while creating memories that will last them a lifetime. Following the award ceremony held 4th May, 2023 , the cadets above have been chosen to lead the unit into its next chapter. From left to right we have c/LTCDR Rasmussen, Mayadia as the Commanding officer, c/LT Praser, Noah as Executive officer, c/ SCPO Greer, James, Senior Chief Petty Officer, c/ENS Roberson, Landon as the new Operations Officer, and finally c/ ENS Jordan, Nathaniel to the far right as the Assistant Operations Officer! Congratulations to our new staff!
