Bulldog Battalion Drill Team
Braddock NJROTC Drill Team consists of our advanced, competition-ready cadets. They are motivated, dedicated, and disciplined all around. Drill Team is composed of smaller teams, all of which compete in what are called Drill Meets. These teams are Unarmed Basic Drill, Armed Basic Drill, Unarmed Exhibition, Armed Exhibition, (PT) Physical Training, Color Guard, and Academics. Drill Team practices every day after school, preparing for competition, and instilling honor and leadership in each cadet. To become a part of Drill Team, you need to keep up at least an average GPA, but most of all, you need to stay dedicated to the team. This means going to practice everyday, wearing proper gear, and being eager to learn. Not only does Drill team give you the leadership and confidence you wont find anywhere else, but you become part of a family that strives to be the best in all that they do. Below, you will find a description of all the above listed teams.
Unarmed Basic:
Unarmed Basic Drill consists of basic drill movements, such as; Columns, Flanks, Obliques, Eyes Right, etc. The routine must be taught from the drill manual, which the team commander will receive prior to an upcoming competition.
Armed Basic:
Armed Basic Drill consists of basic armed movements, similar to Unarmed. The difference is, you are armed with a mock rifle. This allows for a much wider range of commands to be called, such as; Port Arms, Order Arms, Inspection Arms, Present Arms, etc.
Unarmed Exhibition:
Unarmed exhibition consists of intricate marching, and various hand movements (clapping, slapping, etc.). The routine is made by the team commander, and is required to be over a certain amount of time. Exhibition teams are thought to be the more advanced teams.
Armed Exhibition:
Armed exhibition consists of intricate marching, along with many complex movements and tricks done with the rifle, such as spinning, tossing, etc. This routine is also created by the team commander, and is required to be over a certain amount of time.
Physical Training (PT):
The PT Team is the team used for the Physical portion of the competition. A certain amount of males and females are required. In the PT Team, you will compete in push-ups, sit-ups, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and other fun activities. When you join, the team commander will test your physical ability, and place you in the portion of the PT that you will fit best in.
Academics:
The Academic team has to do with knowledge on all things. From the parts of a naval vessel, to chemistry, and even current events, the cadets in this team spend their time together taking practice tests, researching the latest news, and studying the JROTC Naval Science 1, 2, and 3 books. In competition, the exam consists of 100 questions concerning NJROTC knowledge as well as Math, Science, and other subjects.
