Overview

6th Grade ELA Support covers core reading skills and novel study, all of which connect to the core 6th Grade ELA curriculum. The year begins with a unit of comprehension skills using the Journeys curriculum--differentiating narrative and expository text, connecting to text, brainstorming, predicting, and summarizing. Using the texts Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, the year then moves to cover themes related to class, race, ethnicity, inclusion, community and symbolism.
