A huge part of your transition is learning how to use the new technology available to you at NAU. Some things will be required to navigate your new environment, and other things are optional but really, really helpful!
What is Canvas? This is the online portal to all of your class information (including your syllabus!) Every class will have a "shell" with modules, assignments, discussion posts etc...For most classes, this is also where you submit your assignments. Your new classes will appear here on the first day of class. Log in here: https://nau.edu/lms/
What is LOUIE for? You will use LOUIE to manage your account at NAU. Here you will enroll in classes, check your account balance, view financial aid, find your academic advising report, etc. Log in here: https://in.nau.edu/louie
Should I check my NAU email? Triple Yes, Yes, Yes! NAU provides you with a Gmail account using your NAU userid and professors, advisors, financial aid and many more folks will message you here with important information or actions. Get set up and log in here: https://in.nau.edu/its/email-calendar/

A laptop is recommended for optimal flexibility and accessibility. Students use both Mac and PC computers while at NAU. For most programs either will work, but you may want to reach out to your major's department if you have specific questions.
Take time before you land on campus to get your laptop set up with your email, Canvas, LOUIE, and other frequently used tools and resources. If you get stuck, contact the Student ITS department listed below for help.
NAU also has a laptop loan program through our Cline Library. Interested students can apply for one of 200 Dell Latitude PCs that are loaned to students for the entire academic year - from August through May. Applications are reviewed selected based on individual circumstance and/or financial need. If interested, we recommend you submit your application sooner rather than later! https://nau.edu/library/long-term-laptop-loans/
Information Technology Services (ITS) is available 24/7 to help you with all things technology. Issues with email, logging in, passwords, etc... they are here to help! You can call, email, drop in, or make an appointment for them to come to you: https://in.nau.edu/its/students/
