I am a Clinical and Sports Performance Exercise Physiologist with a Masters Degree in from University of Wisconsin - La Crosse and I also worked on sports performance topics for my thesis research. Currently, I am still involved with both worlds between the courses I teach at NAU and my work with the US Speedskating team. During the summer and start of the fall term I also work with the Idaho and Arizona Interscholastic Cycling Leagues who oversees and runs all middle school and high school mountain bike teams in those states as well as the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, who oversees the sport for around 31 states across the US.
I am currently pursing my Doctorate at NAU in the Interdisciplinary Health program. My research focus of my PhD is the application of AI to improve healthcare access and equity. You can see the current research projects I am involved with in the "Research" page.
In my free time there is a range of activities I enjoy but the two biggest ones are biking and baking. I am an avid mountain biker (former cross country racer) and have greatly enjoyed exploring the trails in and around flagstaff. While in my past as a racer I reached the level of earning a Pro license, I now enjoy biking as a way to explore and maintain fitness along with continuing to improve my skills. On the other side, as a baker, I mainly focus on bread but I dabble in patisserie as well when I have time. This is something I have enjoyed for a long time from growing up in a bakery for part of my life and then starting to bake my own bread in college; I actually started because as a bike racer working on my feet full time and going to school full time I would go through copious amounts of food so it was way cheaper (and better tasting) to just bake my own bread.
I look forward to meeting you in a course, at my office, via Zoom or just IRL!
