Step 4: Career Aspirations

Now that you have an idea of what you like academically, it's time to think about how your interests can become a major and career. Think about the life that you hope to have!

What lifestyle do you envision for yourself after college?

  • What is your ideal workplace? (remote, fieldwork, office)

  • Are there family obligations or cultural considerations that will factor into your career choices?

How does my degree choice fit into that vision? 

Does my career require a specific degree or is it flexible?

For example,

Sometimes a major that leads to a career can be self explanatory, like declaring a Nursing major if you want to become a Nurse. However, if you want to become a Lawyer, for example, there are lots of different majors that support you when applying to law school. Some common choices are: History, English, Philosophy, Politics and Law, or even Criminology and Criminal Justice. Sometimes this takes additional research to discover!
