You can use NAU's Bookstore to get a list of your required books by class. Please note that professors update these requirements throughout the summer as they prepare their class syllabus for the start of a new year. You may notice that some classes don't have books if you check early on, so be sure to check back throughout the summer.
From nau.edu/bookstore click on "Textbooks" and then "Find Your Textbooks" from the main menu (the three lines in the upper left corner).
Although you can use the NAU Bookstore to find out which textbooks you need, you are not required to purchase your textbooks through the NAU Bookstore. Here are different things to consider:
Buying vs Renting: This choice is entirely up to you. You may want to consider if you want to keep the text for more than one semester, or if renting for the semester is available it can be a great way to save money. With that said, sometimes textbooks are not available for rent, or sometimes purchasing the textbook can be the less expensive option!
Ebooks: Some texts are available digitally and can be a great option if you want to review materials from your laptop or iPad. Not all textbooks will have this option.
Online Access Code: Some professors will require you to purchase an Online Access Code (AKA a password) to an online text or learning system. Sometimes these accompany a physical textbook and sometimes they are a standalone requirement. Either way, if professors are requiring this it's more than likely at least part of your assignments will be completed and submitted through this online access (so it's really important!)
Editions and ISBN codes: You'll notice in your list of textbooks it will say 5th Edition, or 2nd Edition next to the name of the book. It's really important you get the exact edition required as textbooks can change over time. Each unique edition has a 9-digit numeric commercial book identifier called an "ISBN". It might look something like: ISBN 978-0-545-01022-1. You use the ISBN when searching for the exact edition your professor requires.
You can shop around by searching for your textbook's ISBN at the following booksellers:
· Chegg
· RedShelf
During High School, students are usually told exactly what school supplies to buy. However, in college you are only told what materials to purchase if the supplies are uniquely required for a specific course. For the most part, you can pick the supplies that work best for you. The following are some general suggestions for materials that you may find useful!
If your class does require additional materials, you will be able to see that on the Syllabus the first day of each term.
