Our goals is to create a course and a class environment that is welcoming to, accessible to, and usable by everyone, including students who are English-language learners, have disabilities, or have particular learning needs. We understand that personal circumstances or unforeseen events can sometimes interfere with your academic responsibilities, and the token system should be helpful in that regard (see assessment.) We will work with you to ensure your best possible experience in the course and would be happy to meet during office hours or by appointment to discuss any aspect of the class, difficulties you may be experiencing, or your suggestions for making the course more welcoming and accessible. Please do not hesitate to initiate these conversations — it is important to us that you feel supported!
Please also consider the following University resources as well as our section about the honor code below.
The Writing Center offers appointments and drop in services at multiple locations across campus. Good writers know that another pair of eyes on their work is always helpful.
The Student Disability Access Center offers a range of services including assessments, consultations, and support with accommodations.
Personal circumstances can impact a person’s ability to learn. If you are comfortable doing so, please notify us of life circumstances that may affect your engagement in this class. For concerns involving interpersonal violence, please consider that as faculty members, we are classified as “responsible employees,” which means that we are required to report issues of violence to the University. You may therefor want to consider these alternative resources such as these:
Confidential employees are available if you want to discuss an issue related to violence in depth but want it to remain confidential.
Just Report It is the University’s online incident reporting system.
The Office of the Dean of Students provides a list with resources that can help if you are experiencing mental health, housing, safety and food insecurity issues.
Any student who has difficulty affording groceries or accessing sufficient food to eat every day, or who lacks a safe and stable place to live and believes this may affect their performance in the course is urged to contact the Dean of Students for support. Furthermore, please notify the professor if you are comfortable in doing so. This will enable her to provide any resources that she may possess.
