My goal is to create a course and class environment that is welcoming and accessible to everyone, including students who are English-language learners, have disabilities, or have particular learning needs. I understand that personal circumstances or unforeseen events can sometimes interfere with your academic responsibilities, and the token system should be helpful in that regard (see the Assessment page.) I will work with you to ensure your best possible experience in the course, and we would be happy to meet by appointment to discuss any aspect of the class, difficulties you may be experiencing, or your suggestions for making the course more welcoming and accessible. Please do not hesitate to initiate these conversations — it is important to me that you feel supported!
Please also consider the following University resources:
The Writing Center offers appointments and drop-in services at multiple locations across campus. Good writers know that another pair of eyes on their work is always helpful.
The Student Disability Access Center offers a range of services, including assessments, consultations, and support with accommodations.
Personal circumstances can impact a person’s ability to learn. If you are comfortable doing so, please notify us of life circumstances that may affect your engagement in this class. For concerns involving interpersonal violence, please note that, as faculty members, we are classified as “responsible employees,” meaning we are required to report such incidents to the University. You may therefore want to consider these alternative resources such as these:
Confidential employees are available if you want to discuss an issue related to violence in depth but want it to remain confidential.
Just Report It is the University’s online incident reporting system.
The Office of the Dean of Students provides a list of resources that can help if you are experiencing mental health, housing, safety, and food insecurity issues.
Student Health and Wellbeing offers a variety of mental health services.
