Big Akwa vision is to reduce the environmental and climate footprint of the aquaculture production systems and to join a global transition towards competitive sustainability.

Farmed fish and seafood generate a lower carbon footprint than animal production on land. It plays an important role in an alternative protein for a sustainable food system and global food security. A shift to a sustainable aquaculture system brings enormous environmental, health and social benefits for society.

We rethink how to farm fish and how to implement the other industry resources into the fish production - where waste turns into resources.

How

Pulp and paper manufacturer and Big Akwa AB, a sustainable fish farming start up try out to loop their productions -forest and fish to benefit from each other rest products.

When farming fish the nutrition are left in the water that has to be degraded.

In the pulp industry the processed water is treated via biofilter. The biofilter bacteria needs nutrition for it's growth to perform.

With the advanced technology we loop the fish farm waste water and the pulp water treatment biofilter to support the bacteria with an extra food. The heat produced in the pulp production is also used to warm up the fish water to provide a better fish growth.

By farming in a new synergistic way we aspire to significant improvement of the traditional land based aquaculture performance
