NEW IB FRAMEWORK (2022):
Two subjects
New 3 part rubric (A, B & C)
Students combine the 2 areas into a project or product (Rubric B)
They MUST explain then their project choices, reflect on what they learned, and what they would do differently (66% of grade assessed in Rubric A & C)
WHY?
Interdisciplinary Units are a requirement for any IB World School. We have been doing a few IB interdisciplinary units, but now need to transition to a more inclusive format. All of our classes teach interdisciplinary units, but we need to follow the IB framework. The new Interdisciplinary framework (changes in 2022) seem to be a big focus for IB moving forward. We will not be able to avoid this.
IN THE END?
We will need to have 3-4 week units that are interdisciplinary in every class. We cannot do this in one huge move, and this year is not the year to add additional work onto teachers.
The school will provide very short introductory options in Spring 2022.
New definition: Interdisciplinary can also be inside one subject area.
Biology + Chemistry = Interdisciplinary
History + Government = Interdisciplinary
English + Journalism = Interdisciplinary
Algebra + Statistics = Interdisciplinary
This means we are probably already doing this in almost all classes, we will just need to make it fit the IB framework. . . and add the reflections.
Steps to Success 2022
Step 1: We will help provide frameworks and units options that allow teachers and students to begin implementing and understanding the Interdisciplinary Units by using them - without reinventing the wheel.
Step 2: Teachers will use one interdisciplinary unit this year. Most will be a mini unit lasting 3 days.
Steps to Success 2023
Step 1: We will provide the training, structure and time for teachers to start the interdisciplinary collaboration that can allow the development of new collaborative units connected to our local site, class and student needs. (Future Collaboration - PLC time)
Step 2: Complete full interdisciplinary units in every content area (not necessarily every teacher in 2023).
Steps to Success 2024
Step 1: We will provide the training, structure and time for teachers to start the interdisciplinary collaboration that can allow the development of new collaborative units connected to our local site, class and student needs. (Future Collaboration - PLC time)
Step 2: All freshman and sophomore teachers complete full interdisciplinary units. (Discussion about Juniors & Senior classes needed.)
