Hello! My name is Julie Torres and I am very excited to be teaching 2nd grade again this year!
I started the kindergarten program here at Star Academy in 2010 with one other teacher in a small building and one small classroom.. At that time, there were 52 students enrolled. Here we are in 2016, with a brand new school, 22 outstanding and dedicated teachers, and our enrollment is now 600 Star students! It has been an amazing adventure!
I was born in Fresno, moved to San Diego for a short time and then my family settled in the Bay Area. I moved from Union City to Sacramento to attend college at CSU, Sacramento. I earned my degree in Liberal Studies and then my bilingual teaching credential in 1995. I have taught in Sacramento City and Natomas Unified School Districts. This is will be my 21st year teaching and I still get excited about teaching! I have taught kindergarten, first, second, fourth and fifth grade. I have to say that second grade is my favorite! I love the age of the kiddos, their excitement about learning something new and the desire to do well in school. This will be my 5th year teaching 2nd grade.
My husband taught math for 10 years and last year, he left Natomas Middle School and started his new career with the Department of Education. I have 2 sons and the oldest is Darian who is a 10th grader and Julian who is an 8th grader who both attend the PFAA program at Natomas Charter. I also have 2 very loving dogs and a bossy cat! I love spending time with family watching the latest movies, taking bike rides, camping in our travel trailer, and going on cruises. I also spend a lot of time on my laptop researching new ideas, reading educational blogs and creating exciting and engaging lessons for my class. When I have down time, I enjoy scrapbooking, reading, attending Raiders Football games, and taking Zumba classes!
