Prepare a group presentation to inform and convince the rest of the class on a health topic of your choice. If you have trouble designing a topic, see the list of pre-approved ideas here:
How to deal with stress
How to set goals / time management
How to maintain healthy relationships
How to prevent violence, bullying, or sexual harassment
How to eat healthy
How to maintain physical fitness
How to take care of your skin, hair, nails, and teeth
How to avoid alcohol and drugs
How to avoid tobacco
How to avoid infectious diseases
How to access health care and maintain public health
How to drive safely and prevent accidents
Ask your librarians! They will help you get the resources you need.
Feeling shy? This document gives you the reference numbers for each topic. Go to any school or public library and find the books with those numbers, to find resources about the topic of your choice.
Sac library databases: use your personal Sacramento Public library card, or complete the online application at https://www.saclibrary.org/About/News/2020/Need-a-Library-card, and you will receive a temporary card number that can be used immediately to access the digital library. You will also receive an email explaining the steps for upgrading to a full library card.
When you do your own research online:
First, find synonyms and related words to your topic (those can be from teens' speak, hashtags,..., or scientific words that experts use for these topics).
Do NOT use full sentences or questions. Only use keywords.
Use the Boolean operators (AND, NOT, OR), advanced search operators, or the Advanced Search feature of Google.
To try and find resources created by experts, add "filetype:ppt", "filetype:pdf", "filetype:doc", or "docs.google.com" at the end of your search.
Limit your search to .edu domains.
Try Google Scholar.
