7th to 8th Grade Math Placement

The Natick middle school math department uses a portfolio of information to inform our decisions on placement. Those measures include state and district assessments, grade-level achievement, and teacher input. 

For students (currently in grade 7 accelerated math) to be recommended for grade 8 algebra, they must meet the following criteria:

• An overall Term 1 and Term 2 grade average of a 85% or above 

• A Teacher Recommendation for Algebra

For students (currently in Grade 7 math) to be recommended for grade 8 algebra, they must meet the all of the following criteria:

• Overall assessment score average of 90% or above district grade 7 math benchmark #1 and district grade 7 math benchmark #2

• An overall percentile rank average of 87% or above on the fall and winter Renaissance Star tests

• An overall Term 1 and Term 2 grade average of a 92% or above 

• A Teacher Recommendation for Algebra
