5.12.23
NAI student led. NAI Administration supported.
Fighting polarization, choosing celebration, fostering acceptance.
What is "The Longest Table?"
The Longest Table is an event in which North Allegheny families of various cultures and all backgrounds are invited to enjoy an evening of "time-honored, family heirloom" recipes at a very long table, to "embody the idea of inclusive conversation." Art for Ukraine, an organization using art-related initiatives to fund humanitarian aid and spread war awareness, decided to put our own twist on this event and incorporate student performances this year!
Our hope is to foster a sense of mutual understanding, connection, and strength through giving people of all backgrounds & ethnicities a chance to share their own culture (specifically time-honored, family heirloom recipes, music, performances, and art) with the North Allegheny community. Through this, we hope to achieve our broader goal, still, of ultimately choosing acceptance and celebration, instead of war and polarization, an issue prevalent in our time.

Who are we? You can find the Art for Ukraine website at this link.
Why are we doing this? There are 3 parts of Art for Ukraine's official Mission/Goal = Art, Awareness, & Fundraising—through TLT (The Longest Table), we’ll be able to achieve all of them.
Art for Ukraine’s humanitarian relief efforts are directed not only towards Ukraine (which we did as a starting point), but any places & people in need of such relief.
Art: We believe in the power of creative expression to fundraise, spread awareness, and unite people, all in one. Whether this be in the form of a painting/drawing, a piece of literature, a choreographed dance, music, or a finely-made cultural dish, there will be an ample amount of opportunities at The Longest Table | A4U for guests to share their art, in any or all of these forms.
Awareness: Ultimately, no matter what culture or background we come from, we can all agree that war is something no one supports. Through giving people of all backgrounds, and ethnicities a chance to share their own culture (through food, music, recipes, performances—the list goes on!) with the NA community, we hope to foster a sense of mutual understanding, connection, and strength, ultimately uniting against war for good.
Fundraising: Through the various activities, raffles, and sales we hold, all money will be directed towards the Hope for Ukraine charity/nonprofit, and/or future efforts hosted by the A4U organization/nonprofit.
