This week, Year 6 have had a brilliant time away at Ferny Crofts Campsite in the New Forest. We have faced many challenges and learnt lots of new things, some of which were difficult and a bit scary, but we have all managed to get through!
The best activities we have done include the zip wire (because it was so high and we had to face our fears), paddle games in kayaks (as we were able to learn new skills and splash each other in the hot sun!), raft building (where we learnt to stay safe in the water) and the Aeroball trampolining (which was really active and a good chance to challenge our friends). The go-karts were another highlight of the week because we were able to race each other and see who were the best drivers.
We tried lots of different meals during the week and some people helped making things. On Wednesday, we made our own pizzas - some people controversially tried pineapple on pizza for the first time! With things like pizzas and burgers on offer, no one went hungry!
We had some campfires in the evenings, where we were able to roast marshmallows, make s'mores and chocolate bananas in the fire. It was a good chance to sit and chat with our friends!
On Tuesday evening, we ventured to Lymington where we visited the Lifeboat Station and found out all about the work of the RNLI. We were able to sit on the lifeboat and find out about all of the equipment. They told us about the clothing they wear on the sea and how they can get changed in just 18 seconds! We were amazed at the fact that they were all volunteers and put themselves in danger just to help others!
Despite the terrible performance, we were able to watch the England match together too.
We have had the best week away and have tried so many things. What a good way to finish Year 6!
Year 1 had a busy day at Chiltern Open Air Museum today!
The children put their knowledge from their topic ‘Houses and Homes’ into action when they explored a variety of houses through the ages. They kicked off the day with a workshop all about light through the ages where the children got to make a candle of their own. They carefully rolled the beeswax strips around a wick which took a lot of patience. We then took the children ‘around the houses!’ They really enjoyed seeing how the houses had changed over time and they were especially interested in the outdoor toilet!
This week we have relaunched TTRS! Moving forward we will still celebrate different leader boards but there is now a TTRS cup for the class or house that does the best over the week! There will also be special weeks like 'teacher challenge week' where a teacher will set a score to beat! As was explained to the children today, secure times tables knowledge is the next step after securing addition and subtraction knowledge. Evidence shows that children who have secure number knowledge are far more likely to succeed at maths further along their education journey so please encourage your children to play as much as possible.
This week's leader board reflects accuracy of answers, and covers the improvement of accuracy over the last 7 days.
Well done to our top 3 Rock Stars this week!

New supplier - In order to help you to get the correct uniform, we have recently signed up to a second, local supplier, who will be able to offer uniform at competitive prices. PL Schoolwear has a shop based at Bennetts Gate which we hope will make the ordering and collection process a little easier. We are also still looking into other local suppliers who also may be able to provide uniform in the future.
More information can be found on our school website.
Just a quick reminder, please, to make sure all uniform is clearly named. As the weather gets warmer, we find increasing numbers of jumpers and coats that have been taken off and subsequently lost. We will do our best to return lost uniform if we can see a name. Also, please ensure that any jumpers worn are plain navy blue ones from supermarkets or those purchased from our uniform suppliers. Other jumpers are not part of school uniform.
PE kits - where children are taking part in PE in the hall, we require them all to remove their shoes and socks for health and safety reasons.
Finally, if your child needs to bring sun-cream into school to reapply at break or lunchtime, please send it in a named bag and remind your child that it should only be used by them. Some of our children have allergies or intolerances so we discourage sharing sun-cream.
Did you know that your child may be able to receive additional support in school in addition to free school meals, if you qualify for certain benefits?
If you receive any of the following, your child may well be eligible for the Pupil Premium. This provides them with free school meals throughout their time at school, but also a range of additional things in school to help with their learning and engagement. If your child might be eligible, please visit the following site (https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/ufs/HCWH.eb?ebd=0&ebz=1_1717745705707) or speak to the school office who will be happy to help.

"Believe in yourself. You are braver than you think, more talented than you know, and capable of more than you imagine"
Take a moment to think about the quote above. What do you think it means?
