Over the last two months, a group of Year 6 pupils have been receiving special tutorials from Michelle from The Brilliant Club. The project is aimed at providing pupils with a taste of academia and each week, they have been meeting with their university tutor to learn about the theme of 'Fairness' and explore some of the finer points around it. There have been some highly complex discussions taking place, considering different themes from around the world and whether or not they represent fairness.
The children are now beginning to write a 'dissertation' on the subject of 'What is Fairness?', which will be sent away to a top university for marking.
At the end of the project, in July, the students have been invited to a special graduation event and tour of the Royal Holloway at the University of London. Watch this space for more updates!
As we welcome the final half term of the year, we will be focusing our attention to where the children will be going in September, and, in particular, what we know they will need to flourish. For our Year 6 pupils, we have been meeting with secondary schools to share strengths and needs to give them the best start possible as the move on from the Nash Mills family. For our Nursery to Year 5 pupils, I will bring the children's current and next teachers together to share best practice and what works to meet their learning and emotional needs. We will also find several opportunities for children to meet their new teachers over the weeks before the end of the term, so they become more familiar with them. In addition, we will provide a transition document with details of staff, what to expect in that year and photographs for you to share at the end of the holiday to remind them of what their new school year will look like.
We know some children will find change a challenge but we hope to make this as easy as possible and encourage them that change is something we can look forward to.
Mrs Jessop
This week we are looking at a new leader board. Our focus this week is on a specific game mode (Studio), this mode gives our Rock stars their Rock status, the faster the speed the closer they are to becoming Rock Heroes! Special mention to Grace who has knocked over a second off of her time in the last week, Rock on Grace!
Well done to our top 3 Rock Stars this week!

Sadly, at the end of some terms, we say 'goodbye' to members of staff. Today, we have said goodbye to Miss Brown, who has been working as part of our Early Years team since January. We wish you the very best in your future endeavours!
We know that many of you will be keen to know our staffing arrangements for next year. We hope to be in a position to share this information with you shortly after the half term break.
Just a quick reminder, please, to make sure all uniform is clearly named. As the weather gets warmer, we find increasing numbers of jumpers and coats that have been taken off and subsequently lost. We will do our best to return lost uniform if we can see a name.
Also, please ensure that any jumpers worn are plain navy blue ones or those purchased from our uniform suppliers. Other jumpers are not part of school uniform.
Finally, if your child needs to bring sun-cream into school to reapply at break or lunchtime, please send it in a named bag and remind your child that it should only be used by them. Some of our children have allergies or intolerances so we discourage sharing sun-cream.

Please see below a message from Public Health Hertfordshire:
Measles and whooping cough cases are on the rise in Hertfordshire and we are campaigning to get more people vaccinated.
Measles spreads easily and can make people seriously ill. Around 1 in 5 people that get measles will require hospitalisation. Measles vaccination is free via the NHS, and it is never too late to have your Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccination. To be fully protected, everyone should have two doses of the MMR vaccination.
Staff working with children, infants, vulnerable residents and people who are pregnant should ensure they are fully vaccinated to protect themselves and their clients. Staff should also use every opportunity to promote vaccination uptake to support our residents to live healthy lives.
MMR vaccinations are available this May Half Term at any of the below locations across Hertfordshire:
Tuesday 28th May, Bowling Road Clinic SG12 7EF
Wednesday 29th May, St Albans Wellbeing Centre AL1 3JE
Thursday 30th May, Waltham Cross Health Centre EN8 7DJ
Friday 31st May, Peace Childrens Centre, WD17 3EW
These are bookable appointments, please ring 0300 555 5055 option 1 to book an appointment or for more information visit https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/mmr-vaccine/
Whooping cough (pertussis) is particularly dangerous for infants under 6 months old and can be fatal. Whooping cough can cause uncontrollable coughing fits, causing a person to have difficulty breathing, vomit due to coughing or gasp for breath. To protect those most vulnerable, vaccination is offered for free via NHS during pregnancy and as part of the regular immunisation schedule offered to infants (i.e. 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks old).
Staff working with infants and those who are pregnant should promote vaccination, signposting the individual to their GP practice for a free vaccine.
Sadly, as more people fail to take up their free vaccination or have their child vaccinated we are seeing more and more cases of both measles and whooping cough in Hertfordshire. We encourage all staff to work together to help protect our residents, including our most vulnerable residents.
Please see below links to maternal pertussis stakeholder toolkit (PDF) and some social media assets that have been produced by UKHSA.
The PDF has information on:
the vaccination schedule for pregnant women
how we can best communicate the importance of pregnant women taking up vaccines offered to them

signs and symptoms

As you know, this term our school value has been 'selflessness' and pupils have been encouraged to think about selfless acts that they could do to help those around them. This week in worship, we looked at how selflessness runs through The Good Samaritan and how the different characters showed the value. It got us onto thinking about how selflessness can also run through our school; how we can take time to look out for others.
And why? The children are getting very good at telling us "because it's the right thing to do!"
This half term, we hope that you have some fantastic times together and are able to show how selflessness can help to make all of our days a little brighter.
