Football Report
We had our first football match of the season last night, in the DSSN compete pool. The boys played really well and showed great teamwork and resilience. There were goals from Harry and Dylan and Alfie scored a hat-trick! Dylan narrowly missed a great goal which hit the post rolled along the goal mouth and hit the other post and somehow didn't go in! The match finished 6-1 to Nash Mills! Our next match is next Tuesday.
Reindeer
Over the past few weeks, the children at Art Club have been busy painting and decorating a deer for this year's Dacorum Christmas Trail. Our entry, entitled "Doe not worry, be happy!" will be displayed in the town centre during Christmas for all to see. There will be trail maps coming home for the children to use in order to find the different deer.
I wonder if anyone will find them all!?
How we improve our curriculum
As a school, we are always looking at how we can improve our curriculum in order to give the children the best possible offer. We work with a range of advisors who look at what we do and advise where we may be able to improve. This week has been quite a busy week for this work.
On Tuesday we welcomed our School Effectiveness Advisor for a visit (SEA). He works for the local authority and comes to visit termly at an agreed focus, this visit looked at Early Years and Key Stage 1. His report shared that "Provision in Early Years is a strength of the school. Lesson visits showed classroom routines and active learning are well established". He also noted that there were "Very good learning behaviours, routines and expectations...Pupils moved around the classroom both comfortably and securely during the independent task in maths; and for active learning". We talked about ways that we can make our curriculum planning even stronger and will work on this in the next few weeks. This fantastic feedback is a real credit to the adults in Early Years and KS1 and the dedication and hard work they display to support the children in their care.
On Wednesday, we had our Maths Teaching and Learning Advisor in school, who visited Mr Shane to look at how maths has developed throughout the school. Some of you may remember Mrs Bishop (Miss Dell), who used to be a teacher at Nash Mills. Again, the feedback we received highlights the positive work being undertaken by all of the teachers to develop our pupils' mathematical skills and confidence. Mrs Bishop noted that "there was a real ‘buzz’ about Maths in all of the lessons visited and children were all engaged in their learning". She also said that "children were confident in using precise mathematical language such as whole, part, group size, number of groups to describe their bar models" and that "pupils were confident and enthusiastic about discussing their work".
Finally today, it was the turn of our school governors, who came to see how our work in developing the science curriculum was progressing. They were very impressed with the work that Mrs Nicholls, as science lead, has done to develop the curriculum, especially how it has much stronger links to the Forest School. Over the next year, Mrs Nicholls will be leading a project towards the 'Primary Science Quality Mark' accreditation and governors were able to hear all about this.
It makes us very proud to receive feedback like this and for visitors to acknowledge the effort of the staff and recognising how well our children are developing. A huge thank you to all of the staff who make this work possible!
In a thrilling display of commitment, our school's attendance has taken centre stage this week. Year 3 leads the pack with an impressive 98.7%, closely followed by Year 5 at 98.2%, showcasing remarkable consistency. The Nursery class has made a strong showing with 97.6%, demonstrating that even our youngest pupils are eager to learn. Year 4 maintains a solid 96%, while Reception, Year 1, and Year 2 are neck-and-neck at 95%. Year 6, though, have fallen slightly behind at 94.3%, so need some improvement.
Regular attendance is crucial for academic progress and social development. Thank you for your support this week!
The Christmas Events Letter was emailed to all parents and carers last week. Payment is now open on Arbor for the Save the Children Christmas Jumper day on Thursday, 19th December when children can wear their Christmas jumper with their uniform. In worship this week, we continued our theme of 'hope' by looking at the story of Paddington and, how when he needed help, The Brown Family stepped in. We thought about how this was similar to our school story of The Good Samaritan.
We then thought about how important it is to have friends and family around us; people who are there for us when things are difficult to offer us help and support.
This weekend, think about all the people you have who are there for you. We are so fortunate to have these people!
