As part of our continued focus on having an exciting and broad curriculum offer, each term the children take part in two special weeks; one where they work towards an art project and one a Design Technology (DT) project. The whole school has the same focus within these projects so that we can really see how the difficulty and complexity increases as pupils move through the school.
For this week's DT, Key Stages 1 and 2 have been on an exciting journey through the world of textile crafting! From sewing waistcoats to fashioning pencil cases, pouches, and soft toys. But it wasn't just about the finished products—it was about the journey of learning and discovery along the way, comparing designs, looking at commercial products and discussing how to get to the best outcomes. The children improved their sewing techniques, mastered the art of using scissors with precision, and became pros at threading needles.
As we wrap up this week of sewing adventures, let's celebrate the creativity and remarkable skills of our young artisans!
Mrs Ofosu
The sun shone brightly yesterday as pupils from our Year 3 and 4 classes took to the field for the district football tournaments. The day offers both the opportunity for pupils to compete against other schools and for those who have not taken part in this type of experience before to play a some matches and get a feel of what sporting competition is like.
All of the pupils performed brilliantly and we were really impressed with their conduct, focus and manners throughout. Some of the other schools noted how well our teams played alongside others, which was lovely to hear. Well done to all who took part!
A special mention to our 'A' team, who did not lose a match all morning during the league phase of the competition and only conceded 2 goals! This meant that they went through to the finals and came away with silver medals after a very close-fought final in which they lost 1-0. An excellent effort! Well done!
The children have come back from the Easter holidays to a few changes around school, including the introduction of our fantastic new play equipment.
It has been brilliant to see it already getting so much use; from the start of breakfast club at 7am right through to when Mr Winter locks up the school at 6pm, it feels like the equipment has almost constantly been in use this week! Both the play trails and the gym equipment have been specially designed to improve the physical skill of all pupils, focusing on different areas of strength and agility. We hope that this will be here for the benefit of pupils for many years to come.
As you will appreciate, any project such as this comes at significant cost and would not have been possible without generous donations from our PTA and the local parish council. A huge thank you to both for their support.
This week, we have focused on overall speed for our table and it's a familiar story, Ivy has set the pace again! Not only is she top, she has managed to knock another tenth of a second off of her time. She is so close to 0.5 seconds a question. This term, in order to inspire more participation, Mr Shane will challenge different classes; anyone who beats his score will earn a house point. This week the challenge has been issued to Year 3 and 4, good luck!
Well done to our top 3 Rock Stars this week!

Football kits - If your child participated in a football match or competition prior to the Easter holidays and bought home their kit to wash, please could you have a check that all items were returned to school. We are a little short on some items, which were not bought back. Thank you for your help!
Year 3 Trip date - Please note that, due to an issue outside of our control, the date of the Year 3 trip to Verulamium has changed to Tuesday 14th May. A letter will be sent out about this shortly.
This half term, our value focus will be on selflessness - how we put others before ourselves. This may include examples of pupils sharing well, thinking about how others feel or having a real empathy when taking turns.
In worship this week, we looked at the Brownlee brothers, elite athletes who competed against each other. In 2016, just as he was about to finish a race in 1st place, Jonny Brownlee began to run out of energy and almost collapsed. His brother, Alistair, who was following picked him up and carried him to the finish line. Eventually, they came in 2nd and 3rd.
We talked about why his brother chose to do this, even though it meant he did not win.
Why did he?
What was in it for him?
