School News
Friday 15th November 2024
It has been a busy week in school this week, with a few late evenings for all. It was a pleasure seeing so many happy faces leaving our Parents' Evenings and hearing all of the positive comments in the feedback. We are delighted that so many of the children are doing so well in their learning and that they feel happy, safe and secure in school.
As the weather continues to change, it has also been lovely to see so many crisp mornings, with children kicking up the leaves as they come in. Please do make sure that you have seen the information from last week's newsletter about this year's 'Be Bright, Be Seen' campaign and how to keep the children safe as the nights draw in. The colder weather also means that coats, gloves and hats are needed each day (named wherever possible please!).
It still feels a long way away, but in the next week or two, preparations will begin for Christmas in school. A letter has been sent to you this week with key dates to note. Please make sure that you have seen this.
Thank you for your continued support. We hope that you have a fantastic weekend!
Year 3 and 6 trip to Chesham Mosque
To enrich their understanding of the Islamic religion, Years 3 and 6 had a morning trip to Chesham mosque. On arrival, we were greeted by Imran who asked us all to remove our shoes and hang our coats up. He then showed us the area where everyone washes their face, hands and feet. This was so that the mosque is kept clean. We then entered the main hall on which the floor was covered in a beautiful soft carpet. The pattern had separate praying areas. The walls had beautiful Arabic calligraphy in gold. Imran explained that the words were a prayer.
Behind the main preacher's mat were a number of clocks. These showed the times prayer would be held today. These change daily throughout the year depending on sunrise and sunset. Depending on the day, there are between one hundred and five hundred people who attend the mosque. There is a call to prayer at these times which is broadcast by the radio for people who are not able to be there in person. Imran said that they also now have an APP which tells a Muslim daily when they should pray. This helps everyone to know when it is.
We then went upstairs to the women's prayer room. It had a stunning gold chandelier which was donated by a family. The mosque is quite new being built only twenty years ago. It took several years to raise the money and then build it. You could tell how proud Imran was of his place to pray.
We all found the visit very interesting and brought to life the lessons we have had.
This week's attendance figures for Nash Mills Church of England Primary School are in, and the results are in a league of their own! With strong performances across the board, let's break down the attendance stats!
Although our youngest players on the field in Nursery have contiued their impressive attendance rate at 98%, they have just been pipped to the post this week by Year 3 on 98.5%. This is the first time that they have been knocked off top spot for a while. Their energy and enthusiasm have set the bar high for the rest of the school!
A solid performance from Year 4, at 97%, maintains pressure on the top two and keeps them in the upper tier of the league, followed by Years 2, 5, 1 and 6, all on 96%.
Reception are at the back of the pack this week, on 94%. A few illnesses have blighted their attempts, but we hope this will improve next week.
Thank you for your continued support!
As we go through the year, there are occasional staffing changes to inform you of. We are fortunate that we do not have too many of these changes, however next week sadly Miss Bolton will be leaving us. Miss Bolton will be starting a new career with the Metropolitan Police and we wish her the very best of luck!
We are delighted to share that Mrs Armitage and Mrs Levy, who both work in Key Stage 1, will be moving into Reception. We are currently looking to appoint a new member of staff for Key Stage 1 and will hope to have news about this soon.
Thank you to all who attended parents evenings this week to get an update on your child's progress and to find our what they will be working on moving forwards. Thank you too to those who took the time to complete our annual school survey. This information is highly useful in being able to identify any area in which we can further develop over the coming year.
The feedback this year was highly positive. When asked about the 'best bits' of Nash Mills, responses included "the concern given to the children", "It feels like being part of a big family", "the caring staff and the general quality of teaching is outstanding", "The strong, warm sense of community" and "how happy my children are at school" amongst many, many other points.
The percentage ratings of each question asked are also shown below:
I'm sure that you will agree, this is fantastic feedback and something that we are very proud of. There is still work to do, and in the coming weeks, we will be looking at the suggestions made through the survey, as well as areas where, for all or for some groups of pupils, the feedback was not as strong.
Thank you for your continued support of our school family. It is very much appreciated.
The Christmas Events Letter was emailed to all parents and carers this week - please note the various deadlines, including ordering your child's Christmas lunch by Tuesday of next week via this link. A reminder to continue to talk to your children about safety at drop off / pick up in the school car park. Please remind older children (particularly those in Year 6 who may arrive and depart independently) that it is not a good place for running around or hide and seek, and please hold younger children's hands in case of any moving cars. Thank you.

Parents Evening was a great reminder of how much resilience and effort we see each day from the children and how proud we are of the progress that they are making. In our school, hope manifests in the way that the children meet new challenges and celebrate their achievements, big and small. It is evident in the dedication of our teachers and staff, who tirelessly support each child's journey, helping them to nurture their potential and foster a love for learning.
Hope is the thread that weaves our community together, reminding us that every effort, no matter how small, makes a huge difference. Thank you for being part of this!
