On Thursday, some of Year 4 attended Leverstock Green Tennis Club to hone their tennis skills. It was a fun filled morning of different activities that developed their coordination as well as different types of tennis strokes. Hopefully some of the children feel inspired and who knows perhaps the next generation of Wimbledon winners was on the court!
"It was really fun because you could new activities that you hadn't done before." - Alicia
"All the activities were fun and there were multiple trainers to help us. I liked that we did a new activity every 10 minutes." - Ray
Within school, we are continually working to ensure that your children get the best possible offer in class each day. Our Senior Leadership Team, made up of Miss Brewer, Mr Shane, Mrs Jessop and Mr Maher, regularly meet to monitor and discuss how to further develop our curriculum.
In addition, we buy in the services of a number of advisory services, particularly in English, maths and Early Years, who come in and help us to keep up to date with national and local changes. One comment from a visit this week stated "Lesson visits across the school showed a vibrant learning environment. Pupils were engaged in their mathematics work and could talk positively and confidently about their learning".
This week, our teachers also met with those from other local schools to discuss best practice locally and to share the great things happening.
Next week, our governors will be in school, looking at a particular aspect of our provision and to support Mr Maher in further developing what we do to ensure that all pupils get the best offer.
Well done to our Year 1 class, who this week have all completed the national Phonics check. This is aimed at assessing which children are moving through the school's phonics scheme at the same rate as other children in the country. For those who have not quite got there yet, it shows us that further support will be needed as they move into Year 2.
Well done too to Year 4 who, over the last fortnight have completed the national multiplication check. This is an online assessment, which again highlights who may need a little more help. It is so important to have a good understanding of times tables. Regularly playing Times Tables Rock Stars at home is a great way to practice!
We will be highlighting the benefits of clean air next week by holding a ‘Clean Air Day’ by asking the children to wear an item of green clothing (if they have one!). Did you know……
New qualitative analysis reveals a 50% reduction in air pollution around schools across the and Republic of Ireland of children who have lung function.
Clean air reduces asthma and allergy symptoms, helps digestion and sleep patterns and reduces the chances of lung, heart and arterial diseases.
Some research has also shown that it can boost your mood, lower you heart rate and increase energy levels.
Help us to keep the air around the school cleaner by reducing car journeys and using other ways to get to school – walking, scooting, cycling or using public transport.
Two of our year 6 students, Celia and Jayden took part in the Dacorum schools county championships last Saturday at Jarman Park athletics sports ground. They had to run 600m and did really well. Celia placed 3rd in the girls race and Jayden was 14th in the boys race. Well done to both of them!
It is always fantastic to hear about achievements that take place out of school or at the weekend!
This week our leader board reflects the most accurate answers over the last week, all 3 of the children on our leader board achieved over 90% accuracy in their answers and I am delighted to say that it is all Y2! As we approach the end of the year it is lovely to see our KS1 children starting to develop their multiplication skills more formally.
Well done to our top 3 Rock Stars this week!

Did you know that your child may be able to receive additional support in school in addition to free school meals, if you qualify for certain benefits?
If you receive any of the following, your child may well be eligible for the Pupil Premium. This provides them with free school meals throughout their time at school, but also a range of additional things in school to help with their learning and engagement. If your child might be eligible, please visit the following site (https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/ufs/HCWH.eb?ebd=0&ebz=1_1717745705707) or speak to the school office who will be happy to help.

New supplier - In order to help you to get the correct uniform, we have recently signed up to a second, local supplier, who will be able to offer uniform at competitive prices. PL Schoolwear has a shop based at Bennetts Gate which we hope will make the ordering and collection process a little easier. We are also still looking into other local suppliers who also may be able to provide uniform in the future.
More information can be found on our school website.
Just a quick reminder, please, to make sure all uniform is clearly named. As the weather gets warmer, we find increasing numbers of jumpers and coats that have been taken off and subsequently lost. We will do our best to return lost uniform if we can see a name. Also, please ensure that any jumpers worn are plain navy blue ones from supermarkets or those purchased from our uniform suppliers. Other jumpers are not part of school uniform.
PE kits - where children are taking part in PE in the hall, we require them all to remove their shoes and socks for health and safety reasons.
Finally, if your child needs to bring sun-cream into school to reapply at break or lunchtime, please send it in a named bag and remind your child that it should only be used by them. Some of our children have allergies or intolerances so we discourage sharing sun-cream.

Something to consider...
What makes you, you?
Is it something outside of you? For example your family (how much of you comes from those who bought you up?) or where you live (would you be the same if you lived somewhere different?)
Is it something inside of you? Your beliefs, thoughts or soul?
How important is it knowing the answer?
