School News
Friday 12th July 2024
Due to the Euro 2024 final taking place at 8pm on Sunday evening, we have made the decision to extend the opening time of registers on Monday morning so that the children can all be well rested in preparation for the last week of term. Children who arrive before 10am will not be marked as late. The gates will be open from 8.40am-8.50am as normal and anyone arriving after this should go through the office.
If your child is coming in at the later time, please email the school office with their lunch order by 9.15am on Monday at the latest so that the kitchen can prepare. If we do not receive a school lunch order for your child by this time, they will need to bring in a packed lunch. Menu options for Monday, 15th July are Pork Sausages (Red), Cheese and Tomato Quiche (Green), Tomato Pasta with Cheese (Blue) or Tuna Roll (Yellow).
It has been fantastic to see the children taking part in so many different sports and activities this week; from Boccia to Tennis, to netball shooting and hockey. We were also able to spend time talking about our school values and how well the children have been able to demonstrate their skills of honesty and integrity in all they have done.
We were really disappointed that we were not able to do Sports Day as planned on Wednesday (the weather has been so unpredictable), but it was fantastic to see the children taking part in so many short activities within their house groups. Not only is this a great opportunity for them to try different sports, including hockey, football, basketball and a number of athletic activities, it also means that the school comes together, with older pupils helping younger and setting excellent examples as role models.
Today, the rain subsided (on the whole) and we were delighted to carry out our Early Years and Key Stage 1 races on the field. This afternoon, Years 3-5 also took part in their competition, leaving only Year 6 to complete next week. Once all the races are finished, we will be able to add up the final scores to see which house is this year's champion...watch this space!
It was fantastic to see the children all in their new classes for the day yesterday and for us to welcome our new Nursery and Reception classes. It was also great to be able to welcome Miss Lyden, who will be teaching in Year 3 from September and Miss Pace, who will be a student teacher working in Year 4 for the majority of the year alongside the current staff; we look forward to getting to know them both a little better in the new year!
We know how important the transition between each class can be and how it can be an anxious time for some of our children and parents. Nevertheless, we have been busy in school, putting plans in place to ensure that the children feel confident and are well supported at this time. Before the end of term, we will be sending transition packs out, which will provide a little more information as to what to expect ready for September.
To remind you, the classes from September will be staffed by:
Nursery: Miss Archer and Mrs Holmes
Reception: Mrs Wilson, Miss Bolton and Ms Impey
Year 1: Miss Brewer, Mrs Akhtar, Miss Hollis, Mrs Gamage and Mrs Gazzard
Year 2: Mrs Nicholls, Mrs Cambridge, Mrs Armitage and Mrs Levy
Year 3: Miss Lyden and Mrs Jakeman (Miss Webb will be working with Year 3 too in September)
Year 4: Mrs Barrett (Mon-Weds), Mr Shane (Thu and Fri), Miss Pace (student teacher) and Miss Fraser
Year 5: Mrs Lewis and a new member of staff
Year 6: Mrs Ofosu, Mrs Setterfield and Mrs Gazzard

On Tuesday this week, our traffic-calming friend Ernie (the sign!) seems to have been taken or moved from the front of the school. We are not sure where he has gone, but if you notice him in the local area, please could you help him to find his way back?
Thank you for your help.
End of Term - As it is the end of term, please remember that school will close next Friday at 1.30pm.
Term Dates next year - A few weeks ago, the Department for Education unveiled a raft of new measures aimed at improving attendance in schools. Within the guidance is a much more robust approach to dealing with term-time holidays, particularly those which are 5 days or longer. We are currently looking into the implication of these new regulations, but would ask that if you are booking any holidays for the next year, you do your best to ensure that they happen outside of term time to avoid the risk of fines or prosecution.
Did you know that your child may be able to receive additional support in school in addition to free school meals, if you qualify for certain benefits?
If you receive any of the following, your child may well be eligible for the Pupil Premium. This provides them with free school meals throughout their time at school, but also a range of additional things in school to help with their learning and engagement. If your child might be eligible, please visit the following site (https://www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/ufs/HCWH.eb?ebd=0&ebz=1_1717745705707) or speak to the school office who will be happy to help.

A quote to think on this week:
"One of life's most persistent and urgent questions is: What are you doing for others?" - Martin Luther King
Take some time to think about all of the brilliant things you do for those around you. They are very lucky to have you.
