Following a long period of preparation, we are pleased to share that from September 2025, our Nursery provision will be increasing to a full-day offering, with the option for children to join us from 8.50am through to 3.15pm. More details can be found on our website at https://www.nashmills.herts.sch.uk/nursery-admissions/. Please share this news with friends and family who may be considering places for Nursery from next year.
Children can join us the term after their 3rd birthday and we do still have spaces in our Nursery class. Please bear our fantastic Nursery provision in mind!
Wow! Another excellent effort across the school this week. We are particularly impressed with our Nursery class, who have 100% attendance AGAIN, closely followed by Year 3 on 99% and Year 4 on 98%! This is a fantastic start and means that almost all pupils are in school and so can receive the full learning experience alongside their friends - thank you!
This week, Reception took a trip to the local library to explore all of the interesting things it has. Did you know that a child can borrow up to 30 books at a time!?
The children had a marvellous time finding stories that they knew and new ones too. They also listened to some story telling from one of the librarians.
If you haven't been to visit the library recently, take a trip this weekend! There is so much to see! It is open 9.30am-4pm on Saturday and 12pm-4pm on Sunday - click here to see more!
This week, a group of our Year 6 pupils attended the Diocesan Harvest Celebration at St. Albans Cathedral, joining other children from all over Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire to think about how we can be grateful for what we have. The service, led by the Bishop of St. Albans, included a reading from two of our pupils.
It is fantastic for our children to attend these large-scale events where they are able to see that we are part of a wide family of Church of England schools and they are included within.
This week's leader board for TTRS reflects the accuracy of answers, while we know speed is important in recalling our times tables, getting them right also plays an important part in our development. Well done to our top 3 this week!
Our Numbots leader board focuses on the effort children are putting in and how much time they are spending improving their core maths skills. Well done to our top 3!
TTRS trophy this week is retained by Year 4. Next week will be our first Teacher challenge for the cup. The class with the most pupils who beat Mr Shane's score will win the TTRS cup for their class.

At the start of the new school year, it is a good opportunity to share with you information about the curriculum we deliver at Nash Mills. This week, we will look at RE.
As a Church of England school, RE is a key area of our curriculum, which is taught to all pupils as they move through the school. Each term, pupils will study a different topic, some being Christianity-based, others being reflective of religions that are followed within our school community. In line with our whole-school vision for education, based on The Good Samaritan, RE is taught in a way that enables pupils to gain understanding of their own feelings and values as well those of others. In understanding how other people live, our children will be better able to show compassion, empathy and love as part of a wider community.
Learning in RE is different from collective worship as it encompasses many different world views and supports our children to have a better understanding of the world around them.
Within each topic, whether Christianity-based or not, pupils follow a similar pattern of learning. Firstly, they will think about what the topic means to them; for example if pupils are learning about belonging within a religion, they will first spent time considering what belonging is and how it might look personally to them (by being part of our school or part of a club). Each topic begins with a key question, which pupils will also be exposed to and have time to explore. During the second stage of learning, the children consider what is written or told about the religion that they are studying. This could be by looking at religious texts or thinking about how people celebrate different fesitvals. The children will then spend time thinking about why people do this; what beliefs they may have which guide them in their lives. Finally, the children will be encouraged to make connections between the different things that they have learnt within the topic and other things that they have previously learnt. This helps them to remember key concepts and ideas.
As with our entire curriculum, more information about what we teach at Nash Mills can be found on the curriculum pages of our website. Please do have a look if you would like to learn a little more!

In 1993, 95 year-old William Snell published a list which he called 'Life's Little Instructions'.
They still very much ring true today.
Pick two that you can try this weekend.
Pick five for next week...
