Harmony Starts Here: Welcome to Music Class
I am excited to continue creating and sharing new music with the students here at Nānāikapono Elementary School. We will be exploring general music concepts from tempo (speed) to melody (pitch) using multicultural music.

Quarter 1
Kindergarten:
We are learning about tempo, or slow and fast.
3rd Grade:
We are covering simple duple meter (how the beat is split into 2 parts).
2nd Grade:
We are learning about half note or ta-a.
1st Grade:
We are learning about quarter and paired eighth nots, or ta and titi
6th Grade:
We are studying sound in cinema, specifically foley technique
5th Grade:
We are learning about songs in pentatonic scales.
4th Grade:
We are learning about syncopation, or rhythms that donʻt fall directly on the beat.
Quarter 2
Kindergarten:
We are learning about dynamics, loud or soft.
6th Grade:
We are studying sound in cinema, specifically foley technique
3rd - 5th Grade:
We are covering compound duple meter (how the beat is split into 3 parts).
2nd Grade:
We are learning a new solfege (re) and the associated Curwen hand sign
1st Grade:
We are learning new solfege (so and mi) and the associated Curwen hand signs
Kindergarten:
We are learning about rhythm, or short and long sounds.
6th Grade:
We focused on sound in cinema, and the use of music technology like garageband. Students will implement this knowledge by recording introductions and a scene script they write in Health & Hawaiian Studies from a moʻolelo of their choice and shared their recordings under specific naming conventions in a shared google drive for their year long project.
4th - 5th Grade:
We are learning a new solfege (low so) and the associated Curwen hand sign

Kindergarten:

6th Grade:
