Education & Support Programs

NAMI Montgomery County offers a variety of free education courses and support groups for people living with mental illness and their loved ones.  Be sure to check the calendar for updates to meeting dates/times and cancellations.

NAMI Basics is a signature 6-week education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses. The NAMI Basics course is taught by trained teachers who are the parent or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13 years.  This course meets once a week for six weeks.

BASICS CLASS MEETING DATES:

NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group is a free, peer-led support group for adults living with mental illness. You will gain insight from hearing the challenges and successes of others, and the groups are led by NAMI-trained facilitators who've been there.

Connection Support Group meets in-person every Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 pm.

A Zoom option is available if needed.  Registration is required to attend via Zoom. A link will be sent to you by 3:00 pm the day of the meeting.

NAMI Family-to-Family is an 8-week class for families, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. Family-to-Family helps attendees gain a better understanding of mental health conditions, increases coping skills, and empowers participants to become advocates for their family members.  

FAMILY-TO-FAMILY CLASS MEETING DATES:

A minimum number of registrants is required to hold the class. 

NAMI Family Support Group is a peer-led support group for family members, caregivers, and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness. Gain insight from the challenges and successes of others facing similar circumstances. 

Family Support Group meets the first, second and fourth Thursday evening of each month from 7:00-8:30 pm. 

 Registration is required to attend via Zoom. A link will be sent to you by 3:00 pm the day of the meeting.

Peer-to-Peer is a unique, experiential learning program for people with any serious mental illness who are interested in establishing and maintaining their wellness and recovery. Peer-to-Peer consists of eight two-hour sessions taught by a team of two trained mentors who are personally experienced at living well with mental illness. 

PEER-TO-PEER CLASS MEETING DATES:

New class dates will be announced in 2023.

NAMI Homefront is a six-session education program for family, friends and significant others of Military Service Members and Veterans with mental health conditions. It focuses on the unique needs of military and veteran communities, such as post-deployment and post-discharge transitions.

The course is designed to help family members understand and support their loved one while maintaining their own well-being. The trained teachers of this course are also family members who have experience with military culture and know what it is like to have a loved one living with mental illness. This class meets once a week for six weeks. 

HOMEFRONT CLASS MEETING DATES:

No meeting dates are set at this time.

NAMI Homefront is also offered online through the national NAMI organization. Visit www.nami.org and click on "programs" to sign up to receive registration information for NAMI Homefront Online.


In Loving Arms is a specialized support opportunity for those who have a spouse/partner living with a mental illness. In Loving Arms was created due to the unique circumstances faced when living with a partner’s mental illness. Issues covered in scheduled personal sessions involve parenting, giving and receiving support, and other issues uniquely faced by partners of those affected with a mental illness.
