NAIM Bintulu's Tang Lung Carnival features International High Pole Lion Dance Competition this year

13-17 September 2018 | Bintulu

It will be a festive week for us in Bintulu as our team collaborates with The Federation of Registered Chinese Associations (FORCA) and Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) again this year to organise the Bintulu Tang Lung Carnival 2018.

In conjunction with the mid-autumn festival, various interesting activities have been planned for the carnival from 13 till 17 September at the vibrant Naim Bintulu Naim Paragon's Street Mall and piazza area.

Among the activities to be held are the Maju Sarawak Run 2018, Tanglung Harmony Ride 2018, Bintulu Food Fair, Multi-Racial Cultural Performance, Borneo Traditional Lion Dance Performance, Hip Hop Dance Competition, Light On Ceremony as well as mooncake and lantern making competitions. The carnival will end with a cultural performance and a grand fireworks display.

Last year, many people around Bintulu have shown support for the program and more than 600 people from all walks of life were involved in making the 888-metre-long mooncake line, which made it into the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).

This year, the organisers expect to see an even bigger crowd turnout as it will feature the Malaysia & Borneo High Pole Lion Dance Competition aimed to foster greater appreciation for the art and skills of our local lion dance troupes.

"The High Pole Lion Dance is recognised as a National Heritage by the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture so it will be a golden opportunity for us to see the performance up close here at Naim Bintulu Paragon," says our Bintulu regional general manager Abang Mahathir Mohamed.

There has also been efforts by the International Kun Seng Keng Lion and Dragon Dance Federation to get the nation’s High Pole Lion Dance listed as a heritage under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

The Right Honourable Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari Bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak recently has also been invited to grace the event. There will also be a side event ‘Maju Sarawak Run 2018’ on September 15, where the Chief Minister is expected to flag off the race at 8.00pm.
