The Library Learning Hub at NIS is open for use by all. The Library opens at 8:05 in the morning and closes just before students leave campus. Materials are available to loan for parents and students. Please contact Nicholas Mayer or Ayano Kihara, both are members of the staff in the Library <librarian@nis.ac.jp> for additional information or guidance.
Parents and Students are encouraged to access the Online Catalog using the link above or entering the url ----> tinyurl.com/LibraryLearningHub. From this catalog page, there are links to the EPIC! (PYP focus), ResearchRocket, JSTOR (DP focus) and online resources using e-Platform (schoolwide access to age-approriate resources) and the Sora app (the student version of the popular Libby app) to access our OverDrive eBook/AudioBook library (Gr 5 & up). Access is set up on your initial visit. Adding these apps or bookmarks to them in your favorite browser for quick access is recommended.
Whenever you need to access more materials or to see your own account, simply select "Sign In" from the top right corner and enter your own or your child's NIS account (Domain name: @nis.ac.jp, or contact us for assistance).
From this screen, you can view any checked out books and renew any you wish to keep that are not yet overdue. You can also see the due dates of each borrowed item. Then there's a world of research tools and book selection tools available within the tabs located on the left or by clicking on the title cover sheets of books. Try it out on your own!
Expectations
Students and their parents are jointly responsible for materials borrowed from the school, such as books and portable devices like laptops, cameras, i-Pads, and chargers.
Use of ICT equipment is subject to the NIS Acceptable Use Policy.
Any personal files/data should be removed from checked out devices before their return.
Hardware must be returned by the date and time indicated out of respect for other uses and to avoid a restriction being placed on checkout privileges.
Failure to appropriately care for school materials may result in a loss of checkout privileges and a request for compensation.
Students are asked to immediately report any damage to the library. If the damage is determined to be a result of negligence or carelessness, the student and their parents may be held responsible for the full cost of repair or replacement. Replacement costs for books will normally be charged if the materials were in circulation for less than a 2-year period.
Checkout Rules for Equipment
Portable devices may be checked out by students in Grades 6 - 12 during library hours for use in school-related activities.
At the elementary level, only teachers may permit ES students to check out portable devices for classroom use.
Portable devices may be checkout out by a student for up to one week with approval and should otherwise be returned to the library at the end of the day for charging.
Acceptable use areas for portable devices checked out from the library are in supervised learning activities and in the library. These devices should not be taken outside or off-campus except with permission or direct supervision.
Additional software and hardware can only be installed on NIS portable devices with the network administrator or technology coordinator’s permission.
Any hardware or software problems should be reported as soon as possible.
