Welcome to PYP Visual Arts

Hi! Mr O here! Welcome to the NIS PYP Visual Arts Google Site! I am very excited to start another year teaching Art at NIS. I have always loved doing art myself and when I was young I wanted to be a cartoonist. After secondary school I spent a year at art college painting, doing photography and film. To this day I continue to experiment with art in many ways, and continue to be creative as much as possible. I hope to inspire creativity and fun through art, while also making strong links to the units of inquiry in the homerooms. I hope art continues to be a place for students to express and understand themselves, and provide reflective wellbeing. I am looking forward to utilising the great resources and supplies we have, getting out and using natural resources, using recycled materials, and maintaining an eco art studio as much as possible.

It was lots of fun developing the curriculum last year and we created some fantastic art - which you will be able to see on this site, until I replace it with current work....

Journeys Videos

Students worked in Music and Art on pieces to represent a journey or to show an artist's journey

In Art, Grade 1 worked on drawing bodies, especially, the moving parts like knees, elbows and shoulders. Then we showed this as someone going on a journey using oil pastel and watercolor.

In Art, Grade 2 were linked with the UOI expressing identity through art, preparing for a final art showcase by practicing a range of art types, and how to use lines and colors to express feelings. So this was more of a journey as an artist.

In Art, Grade 3 worked on drawing expressions and bodies, transferring these skills to stop motion animation and a story about a journey.

In Art, Grade 4 worked on drawing expressions and bodies, transferring these skills to stop motion animation and a story about a journey.

In Art, Grade 5 worked on creating art about an issue that is important to us, showing but not telling by using symbols and abstract elements through different media. So this was more of a journey as an artist.
