The Department of Political Science at Nagar College has been an integral part of the institution since its establishment in 1998, with the introduction of the General Degree program, and later, the Honours program in 2006. Since its inception, the Department has nurtured the academic and personal growth of its students, with the first batches of General and Honours graduates completing their degrees in 2001 and 2009, respectively.
The Department takes a holistic approach to student development, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on fostering a well-rounded education. Faculty members are committed to expanding students' perspectives by organizing special lectures, debates, discussions, and various events and programs. These initiatives help students explore diverse areas of interest and develop critical thinking and analytical skills.
The Departmental library is a key resource, providing students with access to a wide range of reference materials to support their academic endeavors. Additionally, students actively participate in various projects, debates, cultural, and co-curricular activities, helping them develop a broader understanding of political systems and social dynamics.
As part of its commitment to promoting civic engagement, the Department observes National Voters Day annually. It also participates in the District Level Youth Parliament competition every year, in line with the directives of the Parliamentary Affairs Department, Government of West Bengal. This involvement helps students deepen their understanding of the democratic and parliamentary systems.
Furthermore, the Department aims to foster students' growth beyond academics, encouraging them to identify and pursue their interests, thus preparing them for future professional and personal success.
