Recognition of Service Members and Veterans
Veterans Day Celebration
Each year Highland Hills Middle School is proud to recognize the veterans and service members in our community. Our school hosts a Veterans Day program for all students, staff, and veterans and service members in our community to attend. The Floyd Central High School Naval JROTC provides the Color Guard and performs a Drill routine. There is a speech writing competition each year, and the winners present their speeches to the audience. We always have beautiful musical tributes to our brave men and women as well.
Wreaths Across America
Highland Hills Middle School has participated in our local Wreaths Across America ceremony for the past five years. We organize a group to represent HHMS at the ceremony. Over 30 students have attended each year, and HHMS plans to continue this annual tradition.
Disabled American Veterans
In 2023 HHMS hosted a Field of Flags fundraiser for the Disabled American Veterans. Highland Hills raised over $3,000 in donations!
Other Recognition
Guest Speaker: The 7th grade social studies department hosted Colonel Bob Benning as a guest speaker. He spoke to all 7th grade students about deployment to Afghanistan.
Operation Gratitude: Each year, HHMS students contribute hundreds of cards to Operation Gratitude. Through Operation Gratitude, the cards are sent out to service members, veterans, and first responders all over the world.
Military Appreciation Display: A display case at HHMS features photos of staff members who are veterans and family members of staff who are veterans or active duty.
