EXPECTATIONS FOR MR. STRACK’S ENGLISH CLASS
STUDENT BEHAVIOR
Come to class on time and prepared. That means you should have your charged Chromebook, notebook, book, writing utensil, or any other class materials needed. It also means you should be mentally prepared -- completed homework/reading, ready to share and contribute your ideas, and ready to listen to others’ ideas.
Commit to this class. There will be occasional homework and reading, writing, and thinking every day. Make the decision to commit -- giving up isn’t an option. Remember that if your head hurts, it’s because your brain is growing. I’ll do my best to make things interesting and purposeful. I won’t give you extra work for the sake of work, but that means everything I ask you to do will be valuable and meaningful. Get involved and stay involved. You will emerge a better thinker, writer, speaker and listener.
Respect yourselves and each other. Interact with your classmates in a way that makes the school a better place. Follow the behavior expectations set forth in our school code of conduct. Also, check in with yourself mentally. Are you struggling? Stressed? Anxious? I’m here to help your social/emotional growth as well as teach you English. If you’re struggling, reach out to me, and we can make a plan together to ensure your success during your time at NAC.
Communicate with me. Tell me about your life. I want to share your wins and failures, so don’t be a stranger. Become a member of the 10th grade community, bring your own strengths to the table, and show us what you’re made of.
GRADING POLICY
Your grade is calculated using a (points earned) / (points possible) calculation. For example, if I gave you a 10 question assignment, and you answered 9 questions correctly, you would have a 9/10 -- If you add up all of the points you earned in the quarter and divide by the points I assigned, you’ll get a decimal. Multiply by 100, and that's your numerical grade.
Late work may be turned in until the end of each quarter for reduced credit.
Your assignments might include tests, quizzes, homework, projects, presentations, attendance, participation, effort, reading checks, essays and other writing, journals, and more. Always complete work to the best of your ability and on time.
I’m looking forward to a fun and productive year,
Mr. Strack
