Air Quality Evolution:
Reflecting on 20 Years of Progress and Charting Future Paths
Conference Mission Statement
The National Association for Clean Air is excited to announce its Annual Conference, held jointly with the DFFE’s Air Quality Governance Lekgotla, which has the theme "Air Quality Evolution: Reflecting on 20 Years of Progress and Charting Future Paths." Our aim is to convene experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to delve into South Africa's dynamic journey in air quality management since the inception of the National Environmental Management Air Quality Act in 2004. "The National Environment Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 intends:
to reform the law regulating air quality in order to protect the environment by providing reasonable measures for the prevention of pollution and ecological degradation and for securing ecologically sustainable development while promoting justifiable economic and social development;
to provide for national norms and standards regulating air quality monitoring, management and control by all spheres of government;
for specific air quality measures; and
for matters incidental thereto."
Through this conference, we endeavour to deepen our understanding of our collective strides by reflecting on past accomplishments, pinpointing enduring hurdles, and distilling valuable lessons from the past two decades. Moreover, we aspire to explore innovative strategies and technologies poised to shape the future of air quality enhancement.
By fostering dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange, our conference seeks to ignite actionable solutions and propel South Africa toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for all. We'd like to invite you to join us as we reflect on our progress and chart the course for the future.
