Welcome to the blog for our class this year! We will share pictures and information about all the fun things we get up to throughout the year on this page. The most recent activities will be first so be sure to keep an eye on the page so you can stay updated with what we are doing in the class and school!
Today marks the first official day of Ramadan for many muslims in our school. We were very lucky to have Afif from our class tell us a bit about Ramadan today. We watched a short video and learned that Ramadan remembers the month the Qur'an (the Muslim holy book) was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During the month of Ramadan, Muslims won't eat or drink during the hours of daylight. This is called fasting. The end of Ramadan is marked by a big celebration called 'Eid ul-Fitr' (the Festival of the Breaking of the Fast). We learned that some people have a countdown calendar during Ramadan ending in the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. We decided to put one up in our classroom as part of our learning. We also coloured in some lovely pictures which say "Ramadan Mubarak" which is a greeting to wish someone a "blessed Ramadan".
Ramadan Mubarak to all our families celebrating at this time.
As part of our GMGY lessons this week we were learning about Lunar New Year also know as Chinese New Year. This is celebrated by lots of people around the world. We watched a video of Abbie celebrating with her family and learned that the colour red is very important as it signifies good luck. We also read the story of "The Great Race" and learned that this year 2026 is the Year of the Horse. We then made some dragons using a new technique called symmetry painting.
Take a look at the gorgeous Love Bugs that the class made today to celebrate all things love for Valentines Day. The children were very excited to go home and share their love bugs with their families.
Our Wellbeing Wednesday theme for January was New Year, New Beginnings. We first talked as a class in our circle about new things we would like to do or try this year. We drew some lovely pictures of one new thing we would like to try in 2026. We all then tried yoga together which we all really enjoyed!
We were vey lucky to be able to participate in some Rugby lessons during January and February. Coach Mike taught us some rugby skills like passing and kicking. We had a great time, maybe we have some future rugby stars in our class!
As part of our monthly wellbeing activities in December we learned all about Gratitude and being thankful for people and things that we have. We talked about what we are grateful for in our circle time and then drew a picture on a "gratitude leaf". These leaves were then stuck on the whole school gratitude tree. We also practiced some gratitude yoga which was lost of fun!
We have been having lots of fun trying out different sports in PE. We have been working on gymnastics and have enjoyed learning new rolls and balances. We have also been lucky to have Coach Rebecca in teaching us GAA football skills. Last week we were working on our fist passing and had lots of fun giving it a go. Take a look at the pictures from all our sports fun in January.
We celebrated our very first Well Being Wednesday last week. Our theme for November was kindness. In our class we talked about kindness in circle time. We then drew a picture showing kindness on our "kindness hands". 5th and 6th class were the kindness ambassadors for the day and came down to our class to play with us which was great fun! Every class in the school made a kindness chain which will be linked together and displayed in the school. We really enjoyed our first Well Being Wednesday and can't wait until the next one.
We had great fun during Science Week this year. We talked about what a scientist is and then we had a go at being mini scientists ourselves. We did two really fun experiments, The Rainbow Skittle experiment and Dancing Raisins. We made predictions about what might happen. We then recorded our results to share just like real scientists do. Take a look at our pictures from Science Week to see all the great work we did.
As part of our Go Phones Free initiative the school was very lucky to recieve a visit from "Fuinseog Wood Crafts" who create games solely out of wood. It was a very unique event and the children had great fun playing with all the different games. It was amazing to see the craftsmanship of the games and great fun was had by both the children and teachers. Take a look at the fun in the photos below.
We had great fun wearing costumes and our own clothes to school on our annual Dress Up Day. We all had a great day and already can't wait until next year!
We had great fun during Maths week putting all our 2D shape knowledge together. We read the story of "Spookley the Square Pumpkin" and searched for all the 2D shapes in the book. We then created our own shape pumpkins and created a very unique pumpkin patch in our classroom.
2D Shapes
We have been having fun learning all about 2D shapes in Maths. We love singing our shape song everyday and searching for the different shapes in the classroom. We had fun tracing and creating our own 2D shapes too and loved play "I Spy" searching for shapes in the environment! Take a look at the fun we had learning about shapes this week!
Shapes Are Everywhere!
Autumn Walk
This month we have been learning all about Autumn! We went on an autumn walk to spot signs of autumn around the school. We spotted lots of different colour leaves on the trees around the school building and we saw lots of fallen leaves on the ground. We also saw the windmills in the flowerbed spinning around in the windy autumn weather. We had a lovely walk and collected lots of fallen leaves which we used to create leaf rubbings in art! Take a look at the photos to see the fun we had!
This month we had our very first school assembly! This is where the whole school come together and we learn about things that are happening in different classes. This month was all about our school values, it was very interesting.
At each assembly Mr.Ennis presents children from each class with an "Ethos Award". This month Ben and Lily both got the award for being kind and helpful in the class and on yard! Well done Ben and Lily!
